Bledsoes sheds light on the OL woes

We all have read media reports how the OLinemen are struggling. Well there's a quote in the latest DC.com article where Bledsoe sheds some light on this and indicates (indirectly) that the OL may be better than we think.

Here's the quote:
Bledsoe: "We've been doing a better job in the running game. The thing that we have to do is we have got to get a cohesive unit in our offensive line and get those guys going so that we can be consistent in our pass protection, consistent in our run game with those games.''

That's just it! The OLinemen are struggling because up to now it's never the same 5 guys; it's never the same OL unit. Parcells has been on a mission to experiment which is what's contributing to the OLinemen looking worse than what they can be. I'm not against Parcells' OL experimentation because I think that's what camp is for and you need to find out what guys can do under different scenarios. But now that camp is over, it's time to get the final, starting 5 guys out there so that they can work on continuity with the offensive backfiled. Bledsoe is right and I have a feeling - or at least I hope -that the starting OL will be very good as that continuity settles in. Hopefully that begins in New Orleans on Monday night.

is Petitti trying out at LT?

I have a feeling that Colombo is going to win the starting RT spot because it's only been recently that Parcells has tried Pettiti at LT. I think that if Pettiti is not the starter at RT then it's important to know if he can back-up both tackle spots.

Parcells said he's trying him @ left. He also said Pettiti has got to show more in order to get the start (during season) @ RT. That tells me he is being groomed as a back-up to play both spots if possible. I think Columbo starts @ RT, Adams obviously @ LT with Pettiti backing up both spots. Fabini gets cut. Either Pettiti will be nothing more than a back-up or Parcells knows he needs a couple of more years to acclimate properly. Last year was a have to case with regard to Pettiti starting all those games... as was Tucker. It was painfully evident that neither were ready to shoulder that load.

Parcells just said that after this game, he's going to try to make a decision on this tackle situation and do it.

It sounds to me like Fabini better have a heck of a game on Monday.

Watching the starting oline vs Seattle everyone except Colombo played pretty well in pass protection. Rivera got backed up once, but not enough to affect Romo's throw. But Colombo had a couple of whiffs off the snap that makes you wonder about the guy, but overall did okay.

In the running game everyone got a hat on their guys and moved them about a yard up field for the most part but they just didn't look like a cohesive unit and the hawks d always seemed to be keeping the inside running lanes pretty tight. So I would agree with Bledsoe that working more as a unit should improve their production.

I think this is how it'll play out:

LT: Flozell Adams (Petitti should take this spot after Adams leaves)
LG: Kyle Kosier
C: Andre Gurode (if he finally found a brain)
RG: Marco Rivera
RT: Marc Colombo

Proctor is having a good camp, what's his position?

I doubt it will begin Monday night because there is still lots of time left, but, I bet that it will be fixed before the first game.

I think that Monday night is another experiment, then after that, Parcells will name his starters and use them the rest of the preseason so that the continunity will be there against that first regular season game...

Proctor is a guard. He will be a backup and Peterman will get cut.

I think McQuiston will have a better chance of replacing Adams than Pettiti does long term. Pettiti had a good offseason but he can't translate it to the field. RT was his job to lose and he lost it. That's why he's going to LT. But he does not have the required lateral movement, feet or talent to play tackle in this league long term. He may be a halfway decent backup, but you saw what happened last year when he played full time.

Disaster.

Well, Bledsoe is playing Monday noght - and I assume he will be starting - so I would think that Parcells starts the 5 OLinemen that he THINKS will end up being the starters come week 1. I doubt Bledsoe plays more than one quarter on Monday, so Parcells can go with the projected starting OL for quarter-1 - or as long as Bledsoe plays - and then use the remaindier of the game for his OL and QB experimentations.

last year he didn't keep changing anything cept center so all the familiarity in the world didn't help us not suck it up big time.

I am sure once parcells feels the peices he has are best laid out he will let the line gel.

They didn't suck it up big time until Flo went down. The running game wasn't great but they were doing well enough to win.

our run blocking was a joke and frankly we don't have running backs skilled enough to make something out of nothing.

I know but is Proctor right or left?

Yeah, McQuistan or Petitti. I was just trying to show that in a few years, our OL will be very young.

Procter plays both right and left, but has been playing left behind Kosier so far in camp this year.

Parcells said all his moves to date are on evaluating players. He also said starting next week he'd start putting his starting unit together and getting them ready for Week 1. Some players running #1 today are not starting Week 1.

Flozell, Kosier, Johnson, Rivera, Columbo is what 1st unit probably shakes out.

Who is gonna be Rivera's replacement? Anybody know?

Will Kosier shift over to the RG position while Proctor takes the LG position?
