Jerry wants some Lovie

It's no secret around NFL circles that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had two main replacements in mind if Bill Parcells stepped down. Jeff Fisher, Jones' first choice, is no longer an option. However, the other guy Jones has high on his list is Bears Head Coach Lovie Smith. Despite leading the Bears to the Super Bowl, Chicago's front office isn't sold on Smith for the long haul. Let me translate for you: "We are the cheapest SOB's in the NFL and we don't want to pay Lovie more than $9 an hour." Jones is well aware of the Bears cheap ways and is ready to swoop in and steal Lovie after the Super Bowl.

I was told that the interviews taking place right now are backup interviews in case Jones can't get Smith. However, expect Jones to get his man. The Bears simply refuse to pay Lovie what he's worth and will instead hand the reigns over to defensive coordinator Ron Rivera. There's a good possibility that win or lose, one week after his Super Bowl appearance, Lovie Smith will become the Cowboys new head coach. If Jones is unable to lure Smith (unlikely) he will turn to either Wade "Why do people keep making me a head coach?" Phillips or Wade Wilson. Phillips could get the job with Wilson becoming his OC and taking over in a few years. This will most likely be a moot point because the cheap Bears will screw their fans once again and let a Super Bowl coach walk because he wants health insurance and a dental plan.

Peter King mentioned this a week or so ago, so this story may have legs and the Bears may believe they can just turn the job over to Rivera who was a former Bear player.

I haven't mentioned this but I read an article a while back that said Lovie, who is from East Texas I believe, grew up a Cowboy fan and when he decided to get into coaching his mother had something interesting to tell him.

His mom was a hard working, church-going, religious woman. She told him that she had prayed about him going into coaching and that she KNEW he would be a HC in the NFL one day and that he would be the HC of the...Dallas Cowboys. True story.

When Lovie got the Bears job he said something like..."Well Mom got half of it right." :)

Interesting story!

LEt me get this right. Lovie has one year left on his contract and the BEars are going to just let him out of his deal? I don't get it. Or am i wrong that Lovie's contract is up?

If so then this is great news. I would love me some Lovie :D

We'd have to give them some type of compensation, as in draft picks and maybe cash.

IMO, not worth draft picks. Honestly...I really like the guy, but he doesn't impress me all that much in interviews. Maybe I'm missing something, but I just don't see the fire behind this guy.

In truth, maybe Ron Rivera is the better option here....for both us and the Bears.

So Jerry, make it happen....RON RIVERA!!

Give me a break, without Lovie's scheme and philosophies, no one is talking about Ron Rivera this offseason.

Like I said...maybe I'm missing something...but I just don't see it. Who knows, it could actually be the other way around.

Even Bear fans say, let Lovie go and let Ron move up. I figure they would have the best idea than any of us.

No, its not the other way around. Lovie turned around the Rams defense from something like 25th to in the top 5 in one season in his Tampa 2. No Bears fans are saying that, and if anyone is, you had best prove it.

Rivera's is up...so they pretty much have to pick one and you would think they could pay Rivera less if they truely are that cheap.

Myself I'd rather give Rivera a shot...

I couldn't imagine the screaming if Wade Wilson was somehow signed on as HC...

Yep... he is from Big Sandy, TX... which is about 20 miles North of Tyler...

Former OU star and Miami RB the late David Overstreet is also from Big Sandy...

Overtreet's son is a first team All Big 12 SS from Mizzou I believe...

Wouldnt we have to give the Bears comp since Lovie is still under contract? Bucs gave up like 2 ones for Gruden, if the Bears win the bowl I would think they would want something similar.

I wade rather go with Wade Phillups and keep my first rounders. Giving up ones for coaches is just dumb.

I agree. I would rather have Rivera than Lovie Smith. I remember Lovie Smith as the DC for the Rams. And while the Rams defense improved, it wasn't anything close to resembling a dominant defense.
This might be a Bill Bellichek (Rivera), Bill Parcells (Lovie) situation. Give me the true brains (Rivera) and they can have the figurehead.

not particularly. the Chiefs only gave up a 4th for Herm Edwards, granted they didn't want him back anyways.

I do not see JJ giving up 2 1's; the last time he did that it was a disaster; and say what you will about him, he learns from big mistakes.

Lovie thinks Rex Grossman is a QB. That right there says all I need to know.

Not that I want the Cowboys to get Smith, but he was only with the Rams 3 seasons I believe. That's not enough time to take a team that poor on defense and make them dominant.

The fact that he was able to improve them as much as he did, IMO means that he must be a pretty good defensive coach.
