Blue Chip Prospects

notre dame's ranking has nothing to do with his talent.
you think he's a horrific no talent bum.
i do not.
difference of opinion.
if he's on the board when you pick...there is no way he's not the best player available.
you turn that card in and move on with your day.
position and logo be damned.
he's the only rb worth taking in rd1.
Me saying he is not a blue chip prospect and turning it into I think he is a "horrific no talent bum" is quite an interpretation.

Whew.

Yea...and I think Downs is a more athletic version of Hamilton.
He's not a big as Hamilton so I wonder if he could do some of the things Hamilton does.

That being said, if you told me I could get a S that could also play CB, slot CB, LB, deep safety, box safety and be good enough at all of them to warrant the kind of praise he gets, then absolutely, that kid is a blue chipper and I am using a first round pick on that kind of player.

I dont know if he can be a single high bc of ability but just bc he hasnt done it much.

But yea I think you could put him up against any of the top S prospects we have seen in the last 10/15 years.

can hamilton do some of the things Downs does right back at you

If Caleb Downs is there you run that card up. I do think he’ll be gone in top 10 it

The only player I like more is Ruben Bain jr

I feel like this term is thrown around way too casually every year. For me it is legit top 5 caliber prospects in any class that have all pro potential.

Think Luck, Alt, Chase, Garrett, Kuechly, Jalen Carter, etc...

This years class which is not top heavy? I have 1...

Caleb Downs. He will not get drafted early due to positional value but he is arguably the best player in the draft. He is a do it all S that can be a chess piece like defender. I see him as a more athletic version of Kyle Hamilton who has been a star.
Id say Bain is blue chip.

I do not see him that way and I do not think a lot of teams will either.

He lacks length and the production has dipped a bit this year even though the tape is still good. I currently have Bailey over him as Edge 1.

To me blue chip is + athlete, +measurables and + production against good competition. Someone you think is an all pro caliber player.

Myles Garrett, Will Anderson etc...

I mean he’s logged major snaps for Baltimore as a LB, slot CB, deep safety, outside CB and is a likely a 3 time all pro after this year.

So I am going to guess the answer to your question is he probably can.

If we and Green Bay keep winning then it appears both picks will be mid to late 20s or even late 20s. At that point, you take the best available guy regardless of position or trade down to acquire additional picks or possibly also get a high pick in 2027. We know there will be several trades with teams looking for a QB or a LT, always is.

We can hope a guy falls or maybe a guy that we have graded higher than other teams. Appears that we will need a LB, CB and DE, and maybe a RT/LT. I do thing Steele will be gone and Guyton will move to RT. A guy like Dunker, World or Goosby seem to fit our offensive scheme with Dak. Then maybe a guy like Anthony Hill at LB or Sonny Styles or David Bailey would be nice also. At S/CB, Downs is the absolute best but he will be long gone then you have 10 or so S/CB that should be decent but suspect it will be a 4th round guy that we hope to get there.

Remember, we have other concerns also, have to resign or franchise Pickens then probably draft a WR late day 3. Have to resign Javonte Williams at RB and draft a late round guy. If for some reason Love from Notre Dame drops into the 20 area then it wouldn't surprise me that we go get him. Having a combination of Williams and Love would be a great boost to the offense.

Everyone knows that from a FA point, it is not going to be until after the first week or so that we sign anyone and we will sign a few, just none of those we fans want. Please don't worry about the salary cap, as we all know they will manipulate it to fit what is needed, i.e. cutting Steele will save some $9 mil, along with restructure of Dak, Lamb and Ferguson which would save about $20 mil.

Should be interesting but hopefully we aren't drafting until the 30s!

Assuming we resign Pickens and they keep all three DTs, the odds are quite good that Jerry will go cheap in FA again. So we need more picks. I would like to see the potentially move one of those picks in the 20s (if that's where we end up picking) and try to grab a 2nd or 3rd round pick.
