This is in todays FWST, didnt see anyone mention this. Apparently Scandrick isnt moving to safety now and Ball is. I would also think this means drafting a safety with our 1st pick is a more likely possibility now.

The addition of free agent safety Gerald Sensabaugh on Tuesday means the Cowboys will likely not move Orlando Scandrick to safety.

Jones said the team plans to move Alan Ball from corner to safety.

Move Alan Ball to safety???

Has he ever played safety before in our defense???

I'm more worried about the fact he weights a buck fifty not that he hasn't played safety in the defense.

he looked like he had put on quite a bit of weight last yr to me (compared to his rookie yr) pretty safe bet he's still getting bigger and stronger

and he wouldnt be playing safety FT, I think it'd be more of a nickel safety type role.

Even though he put on some weight last year he still looks way too skinny to play Safety in the NFL.

Didn't we move Courtney Brown to Safety last year? It didn't work out that well if I recall. I don't think I like the idea of moving these guys around like this unless it has a good chance of success. Moving Scandrick makes some sense but not Ball.

I'm not sure what the pressure is to move guys to a new position. We still have Hamlin, Watkins, & Brown and signed Sensabaugh so it's not like we don't have anyone to play Safety for us.

Moving Scandrick there makes some sense as he would likely be on the field in the nickle anyway but Ball? Come on.

I'm hoping for a draft pick that can play Safety.

Watkins and Brown are good bets to be "churned" IMO

we'll definitely draft a safety or two

Ball is awful imo. Too many mistakes.

Hopefully moving him safety would be a last chance for the guy.

Brown will definitely be churned. Watkins will have to play lights out in TC if we draft a safety.

To have killed the Scandrick switch before they even start it could suggest that they expect Sensabaugh to play a significant role, possibly to start.

Or it could mean that they realized how well he played at CB and that he may wind up being a better CB than Jenkins. No point in fixing what isn't broken, in this case, Scandrick.

Draft a SS, FS and a DB in this draft.. Create competition.. Let everybody battle it out... Cut whoever can't cut it... IE Watkins or Brown... We have 11 picks in the draft...

That makes a lot more sense to me. Ball is rangy, tough, and will tackle.

And he's up to 186 as of last year, from 168 at one time. He can probably get to 190-195 eventually. That's big enough as long as you have the mentality to play.

you guys that are slamming this move are NOT following the NFL. The Safety position is transitioning to a COVER position...Ball's speed is also more suited for safety and has a rangy body type that should allow him to compete for the ball in the air as opposed to tight spaces.

Ball was awful as a rookie, but last year he played pretty well.

I wouldn't mind putting Ball at safety. He may be a little skinny but he'll put a body on someone.

Yeah he is much bigger and one more offseason will definitely show on his frame I imagine.

He is also 6"1 and he can run and has rangy arms. Hopefully this means we can get rid of courtney brown.

I think it just sounds like they've got a handful of prelim ideas and that none of it is going to be set in stone until after the draft and they've got a good look at what they'll be taking to the schools and camp.
