Chance in the last month. To count on anything is wishful thinking. Best plan is to look forward to 2017.

The nerve is supposed to fully regenerate by July. He's already doing strength and conditioning. He in theory could be ready for TC. I doubt it but it is within the range of possibilities.

I think that is more likely than him never playing.

Bob McGinn needs some glory
hole

It's not McGinn saying it. It's a scout saying it.

I'm all for Smith the player, but not at 34.

I think he could play the MIKE whereas I don't think Jack could. Instead, I would have like to have seen Jack at the SS spot.

First off he would not have been accepted by ND if he was not smart

Notre Dame graduates something like 98% of their athletes....they don't recruit some players if they don't meet certain academic standards...and the IRONY of screwing up quote when he thought he was being clever....I think we should take a look at the community college that the writer attended and check into THAT program

Claiborne scored 4 on the Wonderlic.

4 is so low it borders in the level of brainlessness where it's difficult for someone to breath or blink without actively trying hard.

But at least it was +40 points higher than Randle's score.

Jaylon Smith's brother is Rod Smith. I did not know that. Saw a video where he said he's excited to play with his brother. Probably going to be a letdown for him when Rod is cut.

Hardly a dumb kid. Firstly, he went to Notre Dame...which has higher academic standards for their athletes than the typical NCAA requirements. He was also a team captain and team leader.

“Notre Dame challenges you off the field, in your academics,” Smith continues. “You’re trying to compete with the regular students here, who are very intelligent, and they expect your best. Off the field, just becoming a man, with things like time management, having an opportunity to make sure that you’re very detailed in your work, making sure that you’re preparing the right way, and, obviously, on the field, playing at the highest level, those are just a few of things I’ve learned at Notre Dame.

Decent read on Smith continued here: http://www.und.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/121615aaa.htm

Unnamed sources calling out the intelligence and ability of a kid who just got drafted into the NFL... That's like listening to the local drunk tell you how the war on terrorism should be fought or how the country should be run. It's baseless, arrogant and lazy. These "sources" deserve no credibility 9/10. If you're not gonna man up and put your name next to the comment, you clearly don't believe it 100%.

Moving on...

To be honest with Smith's coverage ability, he likely could transition to SS just as well as Jack. And while Smith could play MIKE, he won't be anywhere near as good there. He does not dominate against the inside run game. He just doesn't shed blocks very well. He's not the bulldozing type some think he is. Like Jack, he's much better where he can use his athleticism.

So we drafted a hurt guy early in the 2nd rd? Aren't there any good players that are healthy at that spot?

This was my thought, with the nerve problem, round 2 seems too high to take him there.
We passed on derrik henry, and some good DE's to take him that high.

They say the nerve isnt damaged, but if it isnt working now, that would be damaged in some way.
It may start working again, but it might not ever be 100 % again.
I can only assume this affects moving the leg as in running or moving around.

If he heals up, in 2017 it may be worth the pick, have to wait and see.
I think this is just FO trying to get another top talent cheaply.

That's exactly what it is. Bargain hunting.
After Zeke we started drafting like a team at the other end of each round instead of the top of a round.
I'm no expert but I know if you draft sound players you'll get better as a team.

The negative reports on Jaylon Smith definitely aren't within the majority of those being offered.

There are more than likely at least a dozen glowing reports to every one like this. Grain of salt.
