Summary: This is absolutely the type of player that would fit wonderfully into the Cowboys’ plans, but there are many mitigating circumstances to consider. The biggest is that they really only have Sean Lee and Anthony Hitchens under contract in 2015, while Justin Durant, Bruce Carter, and Rolando McClain are all free. Surely, those decisions are tied together. But, also, Dawson was the type of kid that just 60 days ago seemed like a reasonable 2nd or 3rd round idea, and now he may, with a great spring, be the type of guy to work his way into the 1st round if a team wants this type of talent

He is very good, the question is whether a team like the Cowboys should allocate resources here when they really want to address the sack issue and the potential replacement for DeMarco Murray. Complicated,

but Dawson is exceptional at what he does, which is to cause major chaos on a regular basis.

Weaknesses
Not a wrap-up tackler and needs work in finishing blocks. Freelances and sometimes lacks discipline to maintain assignments. Instincts of a middle linebacker but likely too small for the position. Has to win with speed over power as a blitzer.

Scouts are very worried about his personal character and say he's not beloved within the program. Questions have been raised about his commitment to the process. Not a film studier

"He's an early round player without any question, but you don't have to dig around very deep or very long to realize that his personal character is going to be a major issue for some teams. My grade will be two rounds later than just the talent grade. It has to be factored in." -- AFC West regional scout

Josh Brent, Randle, Boyd on the PS was part of rape investigation. There are a lot of guys in this team that have issues. The guy we traded up to 34 to take last year was suspended 3x at Boise.

How many times was Dawson suspended?

I have my eye on him, and if McClain walks he jumps near the top of my wish list

Clearly a talented player. Definitely had a problem wrapping up. I didn't really know about his attitude issues.

Anyway, our interest in him will all hinge on free agency... hurry up February

I really like Dawson.

I would like him a lot more if we traded down and got him with one of two second rounders.

I am loving Sturm's write ups. I watched a lot of college football, but really don't know much about the prospects yet. A lot of it depends on future health, scheme fit, and football passion. Probably more so than pure talent. But I really enjoy Sturm putting the time in on all these prospect write ups.

Sturm is one of the best, IMO. I trust his reviews a lot more than most guys who rate prospects professionally.

Let me watch a little film and read Sturm and Mayocks take and I have a pretty good idea about a player.
