Summary and Potential Fit For the Cowboys: If Jared Goff goes before the Cowboys pick, we should not be the least bit surprised. He has probably the highest ceiling of this group, mainly because he seems to have a veteran QB's knowledge of football and defenses and coverages and most importantly, where to go with the ball against those coverages.

That is the biggest reason? Because you believe he has a veteran QB's knowledge and there is no real way to prove that.

Trent Dilfer had an amazing understanding of football.

Major Applewhite knew football.

Jason Garrett knew football.

How many other smart physically limited examples are there out there? Tons.

Carson Wentz according to all reports has a great understanding of X's and O's and on top of that he is 6'5 230 pounds with a rifle for an arm.

I don't know if he'll bust but I think he'll be a Sam Bradford type.

Also, for a guy that so NFL ready he played in a offense that doesn't translate to the NFL and he is skinny as a toothpick.

He needs time in the weightroom before he is ready to step on the field imo.

I see a lot of Bradford, Barkley, Ken Dorsey in this guys game.

I am pretty certain he will be better than Bradford.

He does need weight room and little seasoning like every college QB coming out.

BUT he played at CAL! Which Cal OL is playing in the NFL now??? I can't recall if any are. The Bradford, Barkley and Dorsey all played at MAJOR football colleges with NFL OL in front of them.

If Goff comes to Dallas he's going to have the same amount of time to throw or more compared to college. While all other QB in most likelihood will have less time to process info and throw than they did in college. That's HUGE!

There's a HUGE difference between understanding football vs ability to process info as a QB in split second and delivering the football to where it needs to be.

By your reasoning Belicheat should be a Hall of Fame QB and best EVER QB. Nope, it doesn't work that way.

Regardless....It's out there. And a trained eye should be able to see he can't throw a spiral. He sucks. Next....

Considering your past evaluation of Kellen Moore, your opinion to me, and probably lot of people on this site has dropped significantly. If your saying hes bad, hes probably the next Aaron Rodgers.

Goff is my preference, but I have a feeling before all is said and done Lynch rises back to top and winds up going #2. He has that combination of arm strength and touch that is very rare for a QB prospect and I believe ultimately thats whats going to push him up.

I do like Lynch.

He's not flavour of the month but I think he'll be a good one.

He'll need work but hopefully we have the time to put the work in.

With that said I wouldn't cry if we ended up with either of the other two.

My preference would be Lynch, Geoff then Wentz.

Hate to break everyone's bubble...but this kid has "BUST" written all over him. I've watched over an hours worth of highlights.....I can not believe the hype for this sub par project. I wouldn't even put him in the first round. 6'4...skinny as a toothpick. I'm afraid he is skinnier than Kellen Moore. This guy makes Manute Bol look fat. Someone get this guy a steak....Seriously someone send this guy some food stamps before he gets diabetes.

You do know that Aaron Rodgers and Joe Montana were just as skinny, right?

Truth is that with QB's you never know how they will do until you see them play in the NFL.

Hard to take seriously a QB evaluation from a guy who thought Kellen Moore might have the potential to unseat Romo.

Kellen Moore threw for the 2nd most passing yards in NFL history for a guy making his 2nd start @ home. Let that sink in. So yeah...I think that makes me a QB expert....other than the fact I'm probably the only guy on this forum that has ever played past the high school level here.

Wentz has been getting massive amounts of praise heaped on him, but I still have Goff as my top QB. Sturm summed it up better than I ever could, but this is pretty much how I feel. Except I don't think he has the highest ceiling, well not exactly anyways. Lynch and Wentz both probably have higher ceilings if everything goes right for them based on sheer physical talent. Goff has a little less of a ceiling, but a much higher floor, with a much greater chance of hitting his ceiling as well. I'm content to take either of Goff or Wentz at 4 and hope one is the pick.

Very well said, Goff may not have the highest ceiling, but he has the best chance of hitting it.

LOL.

Explain to us again how Moore was going to put Romo on the bench.

That's as incorrect as it is arrogant. You're simply too busy sipping your own kool aid to pay attention. This forum has quite a few members who played at the collegiate level. Some even at well known programs.

Your talent evaluations are historically bad here, as other have pointed out. You're more than entitled to your opinion, but to try and paint yourself as some defacto expert is laughable. If you want to actually scout someone, a good place to start is watching the game tape, not the highlights.

That is the biggest reason? Because you believe he has a veteran QB's knowledge and there is no real way to prove that.

Ryan Leaf was considered the better physical prospect to Peyton Manning with Manning being a better student of the game. How did that turn out? Wentz has interviewed well, showing some knowledge there, but he doesn't have nearly the tape that Goff does. Goff has proven his understanding and ability to read defenses on the field.

Historically, QB's drafted for their physical prowess have just as high, if not a higher bust probability than guys drafted more for their football IQ and understanding.

And don't even give me this "Goff is worse because he played in a spread offense" nonsense. I already destroyed that argument in another thread by showing just how often Wentz lined up in spread.
