You have to hope he's legit. It's simply the hand we've been dealt.

Wonder if any of it really matters..

I've seen cuts of Witten laughing and smiling on the sideline during losses, as well. Who cares?

Now, if he could just play like Big Erik Williams. Keeping fingers crossed.

Here's a clip of him doing some drills back in 2009 as a Sr. in college. Look how small he was compared to how big he is now. This is also not just normal age gain that occurs as a young male fills out in his early 20s as he was already 22 here at the Ole Miss Pro Day in 2009:

You an actually see them doing some pass drills with him as I think he was still a TE back then.

The one thing that is obvious from the video is how raw he was as a football player here. He definitely still looks like a basketball player and looks very awkward trying to do football drills out there. My guess is at some point he realized he wasn't going to make it in basketball and someone noticed his great strength and figured he should give football a try.

It shows where this team's mind is.

I'm lucky enough to work behind the scenes on some nfl broadcasts and more than once I've watched the truck feed of the game and watched the sidelines during the game. The cowboys sideline more often than not (especially under wade) will have its fair share of players focused and preparing with the others joking around or looking lost. The opponents sideline shows guys together pumping each other up and working together with coaches and almost all the players are focused on the action.

The worst was the pre game in '08 vs the eagles to end the season.

Just looking at the pregame sidelines its easy to see how that blowout happened. Cowboys and coaches looked confused and there like they had some place better to be. The eagles were huddled around Dawkins as he pumped them up like a bunch or Norsemen before the rape and pillage. Meanwhile wade spun in circles like a buffoon trying to fix his headsets and romo lounged on the bench by himself with his legs crossed just relaxing. No one was together or seeming to focus on getting amped up for the game.

Wow he looks so "Great" in that pic...

For a 320 lbs dude his arms look pretty good. Compare and contrast to Mr. Free.

I respect you view as someone who has sort of an insiders perspective of the sideline, but come on man.. i doubt you'd feel the same way if we'd won a couple super bowls in the last decade. Every football game i watch there are guys in groups joking around and talking amongst themselves, etc..

They say Free is a hard worker but I have always thought that he doesn't look like he is hitting the weights, and of course this is supported by his play on the field.

I think that's exactly what happened. He was at Ole Miss on a basketball scholarship and the story goes that Houston Nutt, their head coach at the time, invited him to try out for the football team before his senior year. He got on the field for a few games at defensive end that year, and the next spring the Saints must've seen enough athletic ability to bring him to camp as a UDFA.

Good point, Free's problem is upper body strength, he got the feet but can be bull rushed and didn't get hands in, left lunging.

Free was beaten every which way last season. Outside of him, inside of him and straight at him. His problem is he can't play well.

I care.

I don't expect players to act like poor sports or to have meltdowns after a loss. But anybody who thinks losing is secondary to a good joke when you're in the process of losing is a loser.

I will say this about Belichick and the Patriots, I never see them yucking it up during a loss.
