For a 320 lbs dude his arms look pretty good. Compare and contrast to Mr. Free.

Eh, you didn't get the joke.

I agree, he looks solid. It was a "sort of" inside joke (the "Great" comment).

I hope he turns into the next Orlando Pace. But the logic part of my brain tells me he's a career backup.

If parnell is legit this would be the year to show it. I am of the mind set that NFL caliber linemen show something by year 2 or 3 that shows that they will either be a starter or back up. I am of the mindset that Parnell is nothing more than a career back up. IF he was better than free tha he would have not split snaps. Now that being said free has been around a while and got an opportunity to set himself apart when Colombo went down in Free's second year Parnell could not set himself apart when he got his opportunities in his third year in TC or during split snaps. Parnell IMHO is just an above average JAG

What my analysis of Parnell is against yours so mine is wrong? His weaknesses are different than Free's but that does not make him better than Free. In the games where he plays sharing snaps with Free he was just as bad as Free. Free usually got beat with the Bull rush or Stunts and was OK in the run game. Parnell got beat with speed rushes and stunts and was slightly better than Free in the running game. People are more wrapped up in the fact that he is not Free and are willing to look past his warts and overall average game play

Again, nonsense. Parnell Is a much better athlete than Free with greater upside. He had a lower pressure rate than Smith (4% v. 6%) and we ran the ball well to his side (5 yards per carry). His "weaknesses" stem from his lack of experience, which makes sense considering he was a basketball player for most of his life and has only been a full-time OT for two years. The facts simply don't support your claims.

Parnell came into the NFL as a DE/TE. I think he was on the Saints PS as a TE. He spent most of college playing basketball and only played football his senior year. When he started the switch he has listed at 6-8 and 245 pounds. That was only 4 years ago. Over 2 years he got up to 290 pounds and NO was training him as a blocking TE on their PS.

He spent basically the last 2 years with us training to become an OT and has added about 30 pounds. But this guy is really raw as a football player and OL so he has had a long way to come. Not many players could come from his background and get on the field in their second season at OT without embarassing themselves against NFL level competition. We already now know you can definitely get through a few games with him in there without everything falling apart which is more than is the case for many swing Tackles in the league.

Based on his level of play last year and expected improvement in only his 3rd year at the position I think Parnell can be projected to be a better player than Free.

Have you reviewed all of his snaps on the Coaches Film?

I belieive him to be better than Free right now. I just do not see him being good enough to be a full time starter in the NFL. His athleticism will only get him so far and from what I have seen from him he tends to have more average plays than plays that say he is developing into a talented OL. Do not get me wrong I am not in favor of Free sticking around but I think starting a player that I feel rates as a C+ above a guy that is a C- is not really an upgrade.

But does that make him a legit starting ROT in the NFL? Valley Ranch must think so.

I have not but I have reviewed his play over every game he played. The All-22 is great if you are trying to evaluate the team overall but it does nothing when you are looking at technique and some intracacies. Regular film of an OTdoes a better job since normal angles are fine because you can see the OTs on 90%+ of the plays.

The coaches film has 2 viewing angles. The 1st is the All-22 but the 2nd is a overhead zoom on the Line.

Great post. It's unbelievable to me how people write-off Parnell's inexperience as a non-factor. The vast majority of NFL players have been playing football from a young age, and many have maintained the same position their whole life. The fact that Parnell can be called a n "upgrade" over Free considering he just started playing OT, one of the most technically complicated positions, only two years ago is amazing.

Yeah, you don't. Basically, I had that the Cowboys had a great running average behind Parnell, and RB somehow twisted that into me saying that Parnell is great in general.
