IMO, neither looked super special in college either. Which is why im comparing the two.

This is where people missed on Bosa, they only looked at sacks his final year, but the guy produced an incredible amount of pressures.
Charlton did not have the same amount of pressures as Bosa, but he produced better against power five teams than did Garrett and Barnett. The dislike for him is very similar probably because he did not run a 4.54 40.

Just have a quick question. Is Taco a nick name or is that his given birth name?

its name his grandmother gave him at birth. He didn't eat Taco until college. His nickname among scouts was "soft taco". Saw him take too many plays off.

Bosa had a non stop motor. Does Taco??
NO... as a big Michigan fan and a "draftnik" Bosa was light years a head of Taco as a prospect and "motor" is a major factor in that assessment. Bosa regularly got doubled if not triple team on the line. Taco rarely saw a double team, until later in the year when it sort of "clicked"...

Now, I’m not saying that Taco won’t be good/great. Cuz I think he has the ability to be. I compare him to Frank Clark a lot.

Arms
Clark 34 and 3/8”
Taco 34 and ¼”

Weight
Clark 271
Taco 277

3 cone
Clark 7.08
Taco 7.17

Now, Taco is 3 inches taller and is a little slower on the top end, but is much better against the run and in narrow sets. I think we will see similar production from Taco that we are seeing from Frank in Seattle.

Bosa has a relentless motor... thats his #1 attribute. I wouldn't put taco in his level but hey, who knows.

But a wildcard in that is Taco played through an injury his senior year. Bosa has a high motor and good technique, but playing for Marinelli Taco will obviously improve his technique and will play in a wave attack that doesn't require him to play 70 snaps a game.

I actually like the size. We are a small enough group to begin with. At pick 28 we weren't getting LT anyway. If we got Greg Ellis I am stoked!

If we got Justin Tuck?? I'll faint!
The NFL looks to be moving back to power football following SEA and DAL success there. Given that I'm not sure 245 pound DEs stay in vogue.
In fact the first DL to come off the board were Taco-sized. Garret and Solomon Thomas both at 270+. Harris at 260+ was next.
The first Edge guy in the 250s to go was Takk at 26.

Besides, Dallas does have that super quick guy in Mayowa. If there is a LT that struggles with speed, Mayowa could play a lot at RDE. If the LT struggles with power or speed to power moves or has short arms, then Charlton could see a lot of time in that particular game.

The team sort of has both of those covered now.

Not a bad comp, to me his is closer to JPP because of his length. However Clark had ten sacks in his second year. I'll take that.

Interesting to note that Clark never produced more than 4.5 sacks at Michigan.

Physically, Taco and Bosa are fairly close. Bosa ran a tad faster. Taco is about 10 pounds heavier with longer arms.
The main difference to me is polish and college production. Bosa had big time production over 3 seasons and was about as polished a college DE as you'll find. Taco needs a good bit of work and only had really good production as a senior.

The good news is upside. Taco, IMO has more with his length and overall physical traits. One of my thoughts on Bosa coming out was that he was so polished coming from an NFL family, that he wasn't going to get a whole lot better in the pros. Some? Sure, but his moves and hand usage were super advanced for college.

Taco will get much, much better with pro coaching and a pro weight room. Also, a scheme like what Dallas plays will benefit him greatly. Less reading and reacting than he did at Michigan and a whole lot more go-get'um.

As for his motor, I'm not overly concerned about that because the team looked into his character and make-up extremely well. If they thought he was just a lazy player, I don't see any way they take him. I don't think that will be a problem... particularly in a rotation.

Yeah but we have a coach that demands everyone play with a non-stop motor and you can say whatever you want about our defense they at least play hard.

They also have Tapper who's a 4.6 forty guy.

another good example of a guy playing a 240-250 weight who had to add size.
he was drafted about 240-245 pounds in 2013; he's up to 265 and finally broke into a starting lineup late last year.

If our team makes the playoffs, I hope he can perform better than Irving. Irving had 1 tackle and no sacks. He was a ghost. Mediocrity at its finest.
You forget who they were playing?

You have to look at the coaching they both received at Michigan also. Greg Mattison is a hell of a D-Line/ Def Cord.

I still think this take is insane. Dude dominated the NCAA for three years and had a highlight tape of sacks, FF, and TFL that went on for 45 minutes after it was all said and done.

Bosa was the best college DE in the past decade and it's not even close.

You really like parroting Prisco's take.
