Bout Time "Tank Johnson" Gets 120 Days in Jail

SKOKIE, Ill. -- Chicago Bears defensive lineman Tank Johnson was sentenced Thursday to four months in jail for violating probation in a 2005 gun case.

Johnson immediately was taken into custody. He could have been sentenced to up to a year behind bars.

Johnson, who pleaded guilty to violating his probation, also must pay a $2,500 fine.

Johnson was arrested on misdemeanor weapons charges Dec. 14 after police raided his home in the Lake County town of Gurnee, about 40 miles northwest of Chicago, and found six unregistered firearms.

At the time, he was on probation in a November 2005 Cook County case. In that case, he'd pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge stemming from an arrest in which a nightclub valet reported seeing Johnson with a handgun in his sport utility vehicle.

Johnson's bodyguard, Willie B. Posey, was arrested on felony drug charges after the raid on Johnson's home. Posey was shot and killed two days later during an early morning fight while he and Johnson were at a nightclub in Chicago.

The Bears suspended Johnson for one game for being out at the club.

He has been under house arrest since the raid, but was permitted to attend practice and travel to Miami for the Super Bowl, where the Indianapolis Colts beat the Chicago Bears 29-17.

Just days after returning from Miami, Johnson pleaded guilty to violating his probation in the 2005 case. He has pleaded not guilty to the Lake County charges in the latest arrest.

What did Foley do? Not sure he actually warrants any venom that I know of.

the justice system is pretty damned easy on any one football player or not so long as you hire a good lawyer.

Foley got shot 3 times by an off-duty cop for failing to listen (i.e. get on his knees with his hands on his head etc), not too bright to ignore someone with a gun on his part but I think he's been punished enough seeing as how his career is probably over due to the injuries. Not exactly the same thing as this case and some others.

Just so we're clear...this "cop" was off-duty, pulled Foley over in an unmarked Isuzu and then pulled his gun on him....right? And you expect Foley, who was drunk, no apologies there, to be rational, with what he could only believe was some random yahoo with a gun?

Then we're gonna fault him for getting shot THREE times?

ya I would of, if a guy is pointing a gun at me, in my head he is gonna kill me. No matter what he says I am gonna do what I think will save my life. And to be honest that means approach approach approach and pull some mel gibson in lethal weapon moves to save my butt. the cop was a jerk and screwed the pooch completely. I can't even imagine being shot but, if in my mind I was gonna die as an alternative I am pretty sure I woulda done something most would deem ********.

You forgot "rookie" between overzealous and police and add "out of his jurisdiction" to the end of it.

Nothing good came out of that incident with Foley. I blame him for driving intoxicated and I fault the rookie officer for taking it too far without any uniformed backup. And once Foley arrived at a residence his or whoever's, the cop should've backed off.

the point is the cop told him to stop, and freeze, he didn't listen cuz he was too liquored up and got plugged

And his career of playing football is endangered.
