payton tried to teach Parcells something. Parcells is one of those old guys that thought he knew it all, yes he knows a great deal, but he could have still learned more, Tom Coughlin did that is why he finally got 2 rings. Parcells thought that he could still win doing things the way he did when he in the past. Well he found out that these youngsters do not think nor do they act like the guys back in those days, they do not have the same respect. Now it is not all the youngsters these days.

Payton left because he and Parcells was not getting along to well and he had to get away from him. And he wasn't going to sit and wait on Parcells to finally realize that it was time for him to stop coaching.
Really why does people continue to give Parcells credit like he did something in his tenure here? He brought in some weak soft player, stupid players and so did Phillips and it has taken Garrett these past years to clean house of those guys players, only Romo and Witten remains.

Payton left because he got a good head coaching opportunity (i.e. not the Raiders). Had nothing to do with not getting along with Parcells.

That and the rest... Good grief.

Someone should really get the initiative and do a comparative study of just how long and strong a coach carried a team that he was part of. Using team accomplishments, player acquisitions, and coaching styles that motivated and for how long...instead of gathering cherry picked stats and published headlines of a chosen Holywood production. See where consistency and style really stood up and how much and how long a supposedly aggressive nature really stands up...

This. Though I also was hopeful Payton would succeed Tuna. Parcells left us high and dry at the worst possible time.

A year earlier, and Payton is promoted.
this and the way Parcells mopped arounf the ranch waiting to quit hurt the Cowboys to no end.
Very unprofessional. But I do think Parcells has bad depression

LOL! Payton knew Brady James and Roy Biscuit Williams couldnt cover the middle field or any other part for that matter. Pretty sure Parcels was aware of that before the game too.

Payton was unhappy with Parcells always being ultra conservative and not letting him open up the offense but it was the opportunity to get his own head coaching gig was why he left. Sigh!!! If Tuna would have only left a year earlier we probably would not of had to suffer through the years of futility of Wade and Garrett's OJT. I believe Sean Payton would have produced multiple Superbowl championships with the teams we had 2006 -2013. Heck we have had a playoff caliber team the last three years if not for Garrett blowing two games a season with idiotic game/clock management.
