What about it? Totally unrelated to the topic at hand.
Aren't we talking about possible punishments to teams for violating team rules?

The relation is that was viewed as an unfair punishment by some and the violation didn't appear to be against the rules. This case could be viewed the same way.

I'm so sick of this kind of garbage.

Nobody was tampering with Mark bleeping Sanchez.

Anytime you hear someone ask Jerry about a player on another team he immediately says he can't comment about them...I doubt very seriously he would break out the contract while he is still with Denver.

No kidding

I'd love to know who instigated this "investigation"

And those people have no idea what the rules really were or weren't. I don't pretend to know either but I do know that the league did in fact have rules in place if they ever got to an uncapped year. The league said they broke those rules and both teams chose not to fight it. No one on the outside will ever really know the truth of what happened and why.

Actually, if you could prove that scenario took place, it would absolutely be tampering. They are discussing another team's player and salary.

No, they weren't. You are missing the point, in that scenario Dunn isn't negotiating a specific player at a specific price. He is gathering information on the team budget from the Head Coach who is never part of the team negotiations.

He knows from Denver that Dallas has some interest. He has an idea from Garrett about the amount Dallas wants to spend. He never offered a specific player at a specific price, hence there was no "negotiation".

But then Sanchez is cut and he knows to call Steven Jones 30 seconds later because he knows they have interest in the player. He starts the negotiation at 2 Million per season because he knows its an acceptable number to Dallas. At that point the negotiation goes very quickly because Dunn has done his homework and offered Dallas a deal he knows they will take. And Dallas knew that as Garrett's agent, Dunn could get a signal on their budget from an offline conversation with him.

When the NFL announced those penalties AdamJT (who is probably a player agent) posted that several other teams like Green Bay had identical contract language with some of their player contracts but weren't penalized. It also happened right after the Giants owner joined a key committee in the NFL and the penalties were on the key Division rivals of the Giants.

What a coincy-dink.

The Ravens pulled some stuff with Justin Forsett...they needed to keep a spot on the final 53 so a player could spend a day on the roster and then get put on the IR so he could be eligible to return later, like Romo....... so they waived Forsett who was a vested vet and didn't go on waivers.....they already agreed he would be signed back the next day for the exact same contract and cap hit, 3.7m.....he had no intention of signing with anyone else and they even gave him a 100k incentive for hitting 600 yds

If this was DAL they have a 1m fine, lose Forsett and our 1st round pick

Why were we so eager to get Mark anyway? There were other options out there I think have a much higher ceiling, like Murray.

It's funny. I was watching a postgame show in 2011 where Chris Jones was being interviewed after he took over as punter for an injured Mat McBriar. It was brought up that Jones had a "tryout" with the Minnesota Vikings where he was essentially brought in as a left-footed punter because the Vikings were facing a left-footed punter the next Sunday. The Vikings flew him in and fed him but didn't pay him and nothing was done about it because they skirted any obstacles by calling it a tryout.

That has nothing to do with this situation, but shows that teams constantly find ways to get around rules and obligations. Sometimes they are called out for it and punished, but often they are not.
