WE're scoring enough points. Everyone should be up in arms about the fact that this defense isn't better than last years. We are exactly the same defensive team that we were last season. A new OLB that has the same problem as last season's OLB. Liability in coverage! A solid MLB that doesn't stand out. And a FS that gives up the bomb. What wrong with this picture? We did spend a 1st round draft pick on defense and our 2nd rounder last season has improved. Our new OLB supposedly is an improvment over last years. Our new FS is supposedly an improvement over KD. LAstly, our new MLB is as steady as last years MLB. Although, no improvement? Something has to give, and its the attitude on defense. Still too many nice, sportsmen. Make a nice tackle and pat the opponent on the helmet. I didn't see one Giant helmet slap or help our guys up, but we go out of our way to make them feel at home. I'm sick of watching a good run defense that can't make a big play against a good team on 3rd and long. Its sickening!

Good defenses are supposed to overcome turnovers and create some of their own. We are wasting away good CB play with this scheme. I'm more frustrated that we always seem to take the blow on defense instead of giving it against good teams. I swear it seems like we're afraid to play aggresive vs. quality teams.

When Parcells retires after this season, either go out and bring in someone who is creative with the 3-4, or go back to the 4-3. Anyone who suggests we don't have the personel to run the 4-3 is mistaken...we actually have better 4-3 personel than we've had in years.

Ellis, Ware & a lighter Spears at Ends...Hatcher
Ferguson, Canty, Ratliff, at tackles
Brady at MLB
Burnett, Carpenter, Ayodelle at OLB

And that's before making any adjustments in FA or the draft.

We can field a decent 3-4 or 4-3 if we have the right type of man with experience and creativity running it.

Obviously, we still need to work on the OL and QB for next year, regardless of what Romo does.

I know it's only the first year, but I'm very disappointed in what we've gotten out of our first and second round picks this past year...very disappointed.

You can't create turnover when the defense is predictable in every situation. Same package for 1st, 2nd, and nickle defense. I would love to see us use a dime on 3rd down, blitz, play zone or something. But to see Ware and Ellis on the end with no pressure up the middle, man'd up on the receivers and not a LB in sight on 3rd and long is getting kinda old.

You know what even worse? Seeing Roy man'd up on shockey deep in our zone every year, with the same result. Shockey scoring and slamming the ball for a TD. Where the hell was everyone else over the middle on that play? Its not like the WRs have far to go.

I'll take it a step further. More against good teams would be better. I hate the lack of TOs vs good teams.

Turnovers.

Correct. If not for turnovers giving the other team points or excellent field position, the defense would be doing very well at stopping the opponent from scoring.

We've allowed 128 points. The defense wasn't even on the field for 23 of those, so the defense has allowed only 105 -- which puts us 10th in scoring defense. The defense has allowed only 11 touchdowns -- tied for eighth-best in the league. And four of those have come when turnovers gave the opponent the ball inside our 40, including twice inside the 14.

Tiki Barber was patting our guys on the helmet every single time he got hit hard.

We're seventh in the NFL in turnovers CREATED per game.

I will always respect your takes, but on this one, I respectfully disagree. I know the problems that we have had with our QBs throwing points away, but I don't see enough TOs vs good teams. While I do agree with the fact that our defense has been put in bad positions, but outside of WAre's forced fumble, I've yet to see consistent QB pressure and game changing TOs vs quality teams the past 2 seasons.

No sense letting facts get in the way of a good story, you know.

He only got hit hard once and he couldn't pat Ware on the helmet from his prone position on the field

We've forced five turnovers in our three losses. That's 1.67 per game. The NFL average (for all teams, good and bad) is 1.73 turnovers per game, so we're forcing turnovers at an average rate against good teams. We're even better against bad teams (2.33 per game).
