Cross referencing their recent mock drafts and crossing off all the players that Kiper and McShay agree will be gone by #27...here is a list of prospects that one or the other has available to us.

Which players are BPA?
Which players would help the Cowboys most now and into the future, based on losses or contract issues?
Or would you trade down for a player other than these who is not thought to be worth #27 by these two pundits?

Dorial Green-Beckham WR
Melvin Gordon RB
Eric Flowers OT
And runs Peat OT
Byron Jones CB
Jalen Jones CB
Marcus Peters CB
Kevin Johnson CB
Eddie Goldman DT

My first choice is Marcus Peters, so I'd try to trade down with so many CBs still on the board.
My second choice would be Melvin Gordon.
My third choice would be to add Green Beckham to the offense.

The OPs logic trading down slightly makes sense if he groups this CBs closely.

"BPA" is normally not just one player.
These days it usually means a group in the highest tier.
They may split hairs and rank them with a tier of say 5 players, but most know once it's that close maybe no two people in a room agrees on who's better. Need would come I to play then...because it's basically a tie.

What you don't want is to take player you have ranked in a lower tier ahead of the higher tir player based on need.
You really should trade if you feel you MUST match need and value,
That is exactly what Jimmy Johnson tried to do and what's more common now.

I have some doubts that Tevin Coleman or Ajayi will be available at 60. So if Gordon is there I think I'd take him. If not then Byron Jones is very intriguing.

I hate taking corners becuase we have seen so many bust come through her, but I've got to go with Peters.

Peters can start day 1 and has the best potential of the CBs.I would take 4 CBs at27 before I think of trading down or taking OO.

Makes sense

My preference is no to Gordon at 27 but I wouldn't be too upset if he's rated I my top remaining tier.

Eddie Goldman.
My method of improving the secondary is improving the front seven.

TE all day long. Take one in the 1st and then trade back up in the 2nd for another one.

But seriously, I'd take CB all day long at 1st and see how things fold in the 2nd/3rd for an RB.

Most cases Jimmy Johnson traded up.

He is easily the best talent. If you dismiss the attitude issues, there is no doubt he is the best in the class. That said, I think he will end up going higher than our choice.

Back to the OP, I do not think Goldman is a consideration for Dallas in the first at all. In fact, I think he ends up in the 2nd round.

Does he fit what we do though?

Johnson can play off. Peters not so much.

I don't want another Mo Claiborne situation again.

A strong argument can be made for DL, CB or Safety. All things being equal I'd take the DL because you can hide an average secondary with a strong pass rush, but I definitely wouldn't "reach" for a DL if one of the others rates higher. A swing offensive tackle would be a good thing too, but we're hurting so bad on defense I don't think they would do that.

Up or down...makes no difference...find the best player for the best value at the draft spot that makes sense.
He created that old value chart to help match things up.
Very true that he not shy about going up or down the draft board.

He had 51 trades in 5 years and both up and down plenty
