While many professional athletes in Dak Prescott's position would be enjoying the perks of fame, the Dallas Cowboys rookie quarterback is doing an incredibly good job of staying grounded.
It came out last week that the Dallas quarterback turned down free tickets to a Kanye West concert...so he could sleep.
Prescott has led his team to a surprising 5-1 start to the season and first place in the NFC East. Rather than spend his bye week partying and living it up, he plans to keep things low key.
According to Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Prescott turned down several opportunities, including an appearance on a late-night show, during his week off. Why? Because he has his priorities in check:
It's football and family. That's what I focus on. If I have time to get away and spend time with my family that I'm not going to get to do for awhile that I haven't done for a while. I'm going to take advantage of it. It's more important to me to spend time with my family than go with those deals.
One of them was a late night show with somebody. Another one was out of country and that was definitely no. Those deals will be there. If they really want it bad enough they will find a way.
Per Hill, the Cowboys rookie will be spending his free time back home in Louisiana with his grandma and doing some fishing.
Again, not every player would be taking this approach. Fame can go as quickly as it comes, so there are those who would make the most of it. That's not the case here, though. Prescott understands it's a long season, and he would be better off taking it easy this week.
"I want to go home and be away," Prescott said, per Hill. "I got all the time in the world to do that to go to Vegas or Miami. I can do that in the off-season. I got one weekend during this long strenuous period. I'm going to go get off my feet."
Some teams may have been concerned about Prescott's off-the-field behavior before the draft. However, through a great start to the season and a quarterback controversy, the rookie has handled himself with tremendous poise. And that's why the Cowboys have to be thrilled about the future.
