Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Friday linebacker Damien Wilson suffered an eye injury while playing paintball, per ESPN.com's Todd Archer.

Cowboys Place Wilson on NFI List

"That's real hard to grasp and figure those issues," said Jones, per Archer. "I'm being trite when I say it because it's a serious enough issue to keep him off the field for a couple of weeks."

Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones told Archer that the team expects to have Wilson return in 10 days. In the meantime, the team placed him on the non-football injury list, per David Helman of the team's official website.

Wilson appeared in 16 games last year and recorded 15 combined tackles. While the 23-year-old had a relatively nondescript rookie season after being selected in the fourth round of the 2015 draft, the Dallas Morning News' Jon Machota tweeted his stock has been rising:

Dallas doesn't kick off the regular season until Sept. 11, and the team's first preseason game is Aug. 13.

With Rolando McClain suspended for the first 10 games of the year, the opportunity is there for Wilson to take a bigger role in the Cowboys defense. As long as he doesn't have a setback in his recovery, his eye injury shouldn't preclude him from doing so.
