A former great Dallas Cowboys running back imparted some wisdom on the team's newest hope in the backfield.

Shortly after Ezekiel Elliott was selected No. 4 overall out of Ohio State by the Cowboys on April 28 in this year's draft, Tennessee Titans running back DeMarco Murray, who won a rushing title with the Cowboys in 2014, spoke with ESPN.com's Ed Weder on what Elliott should do upon his arrival in Dallas:

No. 82 refers to Cowboys tight end Jason Witten, a 13-year veteran and 10-time Pro Bowler who has become one of the best at his position in league history and a shining example of what a good teammate is.

"Everything and everywhere he goes be there by his side watching and listening," Murray told Werder. "He will show him the way on and off the field."

Witten, who was teammates with Murray for four years, commented on Murray's advice, per ESPN.com's Todd Archer:

People talk about how precious the relationships of teammates are and the brotherhood and bond. I appreciate DeMarco’s kind words not because he said it but the relationship we have. We had a short few years together and we maximized it. A lot of great shared sacrifices together. Ultimately he was able to have an offensive MVP year and I was just a small part of it. But for him to think I could influence it, I think that’s why you invest the way you do. That’s what teammates do.

The two became workout partners heading into the 2014 season, per Archer. Murray proceeded to rush for 1,845 yards, 13 touchdowns and was named the NFL's Offensive Player of the Year.

But after that monster 2014 season, Murray hit free agency, signed with the Philadelphia Eagles and had one of the worst seasons of his career under then-head coach Chip Kelly:

The Eagles traded Murray to the Titans this offseason, and he will try to turn around a rushing offense that ranked 25th in the NFL last season.

Playing for the Titans is a long way from being a part of a traditional franchise like the Cowboys. Murray might be revealing some regrets in his advice for Elliott, as he had something great going after the 2014 season.

It would be wise for Elliott to follow Murray's words.
