The Dallas Cowboys' running game may have taken a very serious hit on Sunday, as starting running back DeMarco Murray was forced to leave in the second quarter against the Washington Commanders with a sprained left knee.
USA Today's Lindsay Jones and NBC's Sunday Night Football Twitter feed provide the news:
Murray has a left sprained knee, the Cowboys announce. He's in the locker room.

TAFOYA: DAL RB DeMarco Murray having his knee evaluated. His return is questionable.
— SNF on NBC (@SNFonNBC) October 14, 2013
Entering Sunday, Murray had tallied 399 rushing yards on 84 carries (4.8 YPC), 22 receptions for 143 yards and two touchdowns.
He scored again on Dallas' opening drive on Sunday and has looked far more spry than during an injury-plagued 2012 season, proving vital in taking some of the pressure off quarterback Tony Romo.
Adding to the concern, the Cowboys are dangerously thin at the position.
Lance Dunbar and Phillip Tanner have combined for just 11 carries in 2013 before Sunday, while rookie Joseph Randle had yet to record an NFL touch.
The latter of that trio, however, pulled in two catches for 15 yards after Murray departed.
