Jon Machota of The Dallas Morning News provided the latest details on the Dallas Cowboys running back, who will have surgery to repair a broken bone in his hand, according to Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones:
Calvin Watkins of ESPNDallas.com reported on the chances of Murray returning for Week 16's pivotal matchup against Indianapolis:
Todd Archer of ESPNDallas.com also compared the timetable to when Emmitt Smith suffered the same injury:
Murray is currently the leading rusher in the NFL, totaling 1687 yards on the ground and 11 touchdowns.
Despite his skill, Murray has constantly been held back by injuries. The 26-year-old running back has not completed a full 16-game season in his three-year career, missing a total of 11 games in that stretch.
Murray had played in all 14 of Dallas' games so far this season, but it now seems his bad luck has returned.
This issue will represent an opportunity for Lance Dunbar to take on a more featured role. Dunbar, 24, has shown plenty of upside to this point, but he hasn't received much of a chance to show what he can do on the field.
Murray endorsed his teammate before the start of the year, saying, "I definitely know and feel he needs to get some touches, get on the field and make some things happen, because he's definitely a spark for our team," via Dan Schneier of Fox Sports Southwest.
The Cowboys will definitely miss Murray's production, especially as they try to secure an NFC East title. But Dallas still has other weapons to strike fear into opposing defenses.
With Tony Romo under center and receivers like Dez Bryant and Jason Witten to rely on, the offense will still produce some points while its starting ball-carrier is out of commission.
