The one thing every NFL team and player wants to avoid in training camp in late July is injuries, and DeMarcus Lawrence and the Dallas Cowboys were unable to do so Tuesday.

While there is plenty of time before the actual season starts, the fact that Lawrence was helped by a trainer and carted off the field is an ominous sign when discussing the potential severity of this setback. This certainly isn’t something the rookie wanted to undergo before even stepping foot on an NFL field for an actual game.

The Cowboys selected Lawrence with the No. 34 overall pick in the draft and were hoping he could shore up their vulnerable defense. He was one of the best edge pass-rushers in all of college football at Boise State, and he has the versatility to play both inside and outside on the defensive line.

The Cowboys could use that type of production this season, so this will be interesting to keep an eye on. Stay tuned as updates develop.
