Staying true to the adage that everything is bigger in Texas, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the team's new practice facility will cost $5 billion.
Per Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram on Wednesday, Jones confirmed the cost of the facilities that will be located in Frisco, Texas.
While an exorbitant amount of money for a facility, Jones has not been shy about throwing his money around when it comes to the Cowboys. AT&T Stadium, which opened in 2009, cost $1.2 billion to construct.
Per David Helman of the Cowboys' official website, the new practice facility will also serve multiple functions beyond just being a home for the team during training camp and the regular season:
The Cowboys will share their new headquarters with the city of Frisco and the eight high schools that make up the Frisco Independent School District.
That calls for a never-before-seen partnership between professional and high school athletics in North Texas. One of the premier features of the new facility will be the 12,000-seat Ford Center at The Star, which will house all football operations for the Dallas Cowboys – but will also host football games and other activities for Frisco ISD member schools.
Helman also noted the facilities will take up a total of 91 acres and will include the Cowboys' corporate headquarters, commercial office space and a 2,000-foot Nike store.
The power of football in Texas has never been more apparent than in recent developments by the Cowboys. They are spending more than four times as much money to build a practice site as they did to construct a state-of-the-art stadium that features a video scoreboard measuring 11,520 square feet.
It can never be said that Jones doesn't want to provide his team with the best amenities so it is comfortable going through a grueling NFL season.
