Wentz and Goff took a certain amount of guaranteed money to lock themselves into 6 year commitments to their current teams. Dak should not get the same amount of guaranteed money to only lock himself in at 4. If he wants that four years so he can cash in again sooner, then he isn't really entitled to what Wentz and Goff got when they locked themselves in.

What Dallas should do is now basically said here is your 4 years............ it's an extension tacked onto the tag year. Like Wentz and Goff, we will tack on four years and restructure what's left on your existing contract terms, in this case, the tag year.

That would be akin and in line with what Wentz and Goff got.

Could be that the front office is not budging because they're equally satisfied with a 1 year franchise tag deal. They're still waiting for Dak to "prove it" and they might feel differently when the season is over.

Dak has far more leverage now than Wentz and Goff did when they signed. Wentz and Goff were already basically locked in for four more years before the deal was struck (4th year, 5th year, and potentially two franchise tags). Dak is already on his first tag, and with the potential for COVID to possibly cause the salary cap to stagnate for the first time in a decade the Cowboys may not even be able to stomach a second tag. Dak should be getting more guaranteed money just based off the fact that the cap increased $10 million since Wentz and Goff signed their deals. Also all Dak has to do is play this season and the floor for a new deal basically becomes $38 million per year.

Hey Seven3000, You're half right with your post. What JJ and Co didn't plan for was Dak imploding in 2019. Finished 8-8, lost to both the AAA Eagles and the New York Jets when the Cowboys were DOUBLE digit favorites. Dak also had MAJOR issues in his game when he went head to head against teams with winning records. The 2019 team was pick by most of the experts to go deep into the playoffs with some experts picking them to win the Super Bowl. So if JJ and Co aren't feeling that comfy with a 4 yr deal then they need to stand their ground. Dak and his team are all about the $$$$$$, that equates to greediness in my book, not Super Bowls.

    4 years
    140 million
    112 guaranteed
    25 million signing bonus

How many here would be mad and how many are ok with it...

    Basically 28 a year.

This needs to stop. There isn't a human being let alone a professional athlete worth so much $ for playing a kids sport for a few months out of a year. When did it get so out of hand/control?!

why would he do that when he can get 31 guaranteed for this one year alone? then when he signs next year he gets 112 G money,
or even more G if he plays on tag again!
That is why I think he wants to play on the tag, get the tag money, then sign even bigger contract later on.
He is trying to maximize the G money.
The G money is sometimes all the player will actually get unless they finish the whole contract.

He should not because he's asking the Cowboys to give up years.

He wants 4 years? Then he gets less guaranteed money. He can't have his cake and eat it too.

The Cowboys aren't giving up anything because they never had it. The Eagles and Rams already had two years in their pocket. The Cowboys don't. If they acted with a sense of urgency before the 2019 they could have had the same ability to spread out the cap hit the way the Eagles and Rams did. The Eagles and Rams got a discount on their qbs for coming to the table early with compelling offers. The Cowboys lowballed Dak because they were fine with him playing for only $2 million, but now the bill has come due. If a deal doesn't get done and Dak ends up playing on the tag, all signs point to Dak leaving.

We will have a out in 3 years but will likely extend him after the 4th year anyways. He will get to dip back in the market anyways.

    Yeah..

And it has been mentioned that even with a 4 year deal..

they can Tag him for 2 more years after that and control Dak if they want to.

No wonder he wants 4 only.

This is all a tempest in a teapot. Who knows what will be going on with us as a team 5 years from now.

It’s about security. If he gets a career ending injury the last game of the year he will get his 31 and maybe his insurance money. It’s plenty to live on after the 31 IMO. Lol. But take that 112 now. Then if injury happens your good.

Dak is playing it two ways. i want money in case i get hurt and "trust" my talent to know if i make you will have to pay me.
no QB is worth a ridiculous amount of money if we go 8-8 and or dont do anything in the play offs.
prove it then we talk. so franchise tag x2 then Jerry decides.
we can stop talking about about short. relax and see what happens
