The Dallas Cowboys have officially activated quarterback Tony Romo, who will be under center Sunday against the Miami Dolphins for the first time since fracturing his collarbone, according to David Helman of DallasCowboys.com.

Romo has not taken a snap since the third quarter of Week 2 against the Philadelphia Eagles, when Eagles linebacker Jordan Hicks sacked him. The Cowboys won 20-10, but that's the last time Jason Garrett's team has tasted victory.

The Cowboys went 0-7 with Romo out of the lineup. They went 0-3 with Brandon Weeden under center and 0-4 under Matt Cassel. Dallas released Weeden on Tuesday to make the necessary room for Romo.

Despite the fact that the Cowboys have not won since September, they are not out of the NFC East race. They're only 2.5 games back of the 5-5 New York Giants for first place in the division.

Even Romo himself knows that it's far from over with seven games to go. He showed as much when he took to Twitter Nov. 17 for the first time since Sept. 21 and posted this clip from Major League:

"I don't think that anyone in this locker room thinks by any means that the season is over, and I think they understand," Romo said Wednesday per ESPN.com's Todd Archer. "I have conveyed that message to them. I think our coach has. You can tell by the way they play. You lose enough games, it can creep in where it feels that way.

Sunday will also mark the first time since Week 1 that Dallas' offense will be fully intact. Dez Bryant did not play in Romo's last game due to a broken foot that kept him out for six weeks.

Romo's return to the lineup could also bring back that balanced attack that made the Cowboys dangerous in 2014. Darren McFadden, 28, has shown flashes of his younger days in the last month, eclipsing the 100-yard mark twice. With Romo back, that should open up the running game as teams begin to respect the Cowboys' passing attack once again.

Asking Romo to bring back the Cowboys like this is a tall task, especially with two games in the span of four days with the Carolina Panthers coming to AT&T Stadium on Thanksgiving. No team has ever made the playoffs after starting 2-7 or worse through nine games, according to ESPN's Ed Werder.

But considering Romo's talent and the weakened NFC East, the Cowboys still have a shot.
