Brace yourself for a Pickens holdout

If they tag him he can’t be compelled to attend camp

He can sit out all the way to week 10 and still get credit for the year although he doesn’t get paid.

Those are players meager rights if they are tagged, which favors the ownership in almost every way.

If he gets a real contract, there’s no reason for him to holdout.

I’d Jerry pulls a Jerry and drags things out and poisons the off season again like he did with Parsons, then yeah, he’ll react like most players would.

The last thing this team needs is another long, protracted, acrimonious contract negotiation.

The dumb thing is that their trade for Pickens worked, and this reality was one of the possible outcomes when they made the move to acquire him.

So pay him, trade him, or let him walk. It isn’t rocket science. He certainly has earned a pay day. If it’s too rich for the FO considering the needs on D— then tag and trade him or let him walk.

The fact that these situations inevitably breakdown into some goofy, awkward, and exhausting melodrama is a testament to just how incompetent and irresponsible this FO is when it comes to basic football operations

Yes he could hold out to week 10 but that would also reinforce the perception he's hard to deal with when he's really only had one season with production worthy of what he's looking for.
Guessing his agent explains to him that if he wants a contract averaging over the 30m plus range it would be in his best interest to produce another season similar to 2024!
Everything to me points at the non exclusive tag.
Let other teams either set the market and take the picks, or help convince him he hasn't produced consistently enough yet to warrant over 28-30 per year yet!

Franchise tag him.. it' about long term and at least pickens knows the offense, system and has a rapport with Dak.

Should anyone be suprised by this? Even if they use the franchise tag I still think he holds out. It’s possible Jerry gets a handshake deal first though, we know how well that worked out.

If the Cowboys were a smart organization they would tag and trade Pickens for more draft capital. Not just trade him but do it quickly and quietly. This draft is deep with receivers as well plus the best player on the board could be a receiver. Pickens was great here but I don’t want the Cowboys to be the Bengals of the last two seasons.

This is why we have to tag and trade. The guy is likley to hold out training camp and into the regular season if he's forced to play on a tag. And I get it. He forced his way out of Pittburgh and bet on himself signing a cheap contract last year. He wants his bag and so does his agent............. the same agent as Micah. I've read they are looking for 35M a year. So, there goes the defensive rebuild money. We were 7-9-1 last year with an offense overloaded with talent and a defense devoid of it. Paying Pickens would be running it back.

I don't know how it all shakes out but I believe that no matter how long he is here his best season in Dallas will always be 2025. That is my prediction.
Well maybe, just maybe, he wants a Gold Jacket and having his name up on the NFL marquee. If so he has the opportunity with Dak throwing to him to string some pro bowl seasons together. He has the QB to do that and there is always he could end up with a Shedeur Sanders or Bryce Young throwing to him. To a certain extent he needs an top 10 QB who can pass.

Good chance they tag.

But he will go off meds. Like the Detroit game.

they likely rework Dak and CDs contract. QWill, KennyC and OSA too. 60M in cap with the 3 DTs.

They are over the top 51 cap by 30M+

Have to get that number down by March.

Less risk on this situation then Micah. Let him sit if that's what he wants. League already thinks he's a headcase. Any issues from him will hurt his next contract. Still have Ceedee.

We have more leverage in this situation.

You guys need to get out of the mindset that players want accolades and care about legacy. The modern nfl is entertainment, brand, and securing the bag above all else.

Pickens has all the leverage and if Dallas won’t pay him someone else will gladly do it instead
