Brace yourself for a Pickens holdout

Why cant you? I'd be tempted to offer Pickens Lamb money on the AAV to satisfy his ego, but then go significantly lower on the guaranteed portion. Seems like a win/win to me and probably the type of deal Pickens would get on the open market.
GP isnt CD.

CD is WR1.

GP wants mega $$$

Tag him and he goes off meds, like the Detroit game.

Just because he’s tagged doesn’t mean he’s available for trade. Using the franchise tag starts a clock and the player, and his agent initially control the timing. Player merely does not sign the tag immediately and he, and his agent, will have to be satisfied with the team he’d be traded to, and the deal. That deal requires negotiation with Pickens’ agent. Otherwise, no deal or trade. For anything.

If Pickens and Mulugheta don’t get what they want, and it’s July 16, the clock stops. Pickens is stuck. Waits to finally sign the tag, likely to the day before the 1st game, shows up, and he’s getting paid $28 million for the season. Guaranteed.

Can’t be financially penalized as you can’t hold out if you’re not under contract. I doubt Pickens gives up any of his 18 game checks. Jerry is not going to live through anything like this. He’s not going to be able to do significant roster building committing $28 million to the cap behind one wide receiver. Which the franchise tag requires. Pickens will be signed. For a lot.
I hope Dallas finds a way to keep Pickens, he and Lamb along with a good running game with Williams, has proven to work effectively. Sign Pickens don't let your star players leave he is in essence your 3rd round pick in this year's draft, but he plays like a first rounder. This guy is a weapon let's keep him happy with a long-term deal and use him; to win another Super Bowl he is Michael Irvin 2.0. Dallas has about a 3-to-4-year window with Prescott at QB, go get a good offensive tackle and build your defense through free agency and the draft. Common sense approach.

His contract expires at the end of the league year, which is early March. He cannot report or participate in any offseason programs w/o a contract. Even with the tag, he will have until July to sign it. So this is not a big deal until we hear he's NOT going to sign the tag.
BTW.....Remember Lamb also held out......

It will be good offseason material for the fan/media to talk about but Pickens isn't going anywhere. It is my understanding that Dak and Lamb have already advised him to be patient, don't take it personally .....he will get his money. Just having them to lean on will be huge.

Good post Hawkeye0202, I like it. This is like having Michael Irvin once again.

The team should retain him. He’ll be worth what he’s paid.

The real question is WHY would he do this to Pickens
I can't figure out why Ol Jerry does what he does, hell Ol Jerry probably don't know what he does or why he does it. He is capable of throwing a wrench in the gears. Ol Jerry will surprise me if he can have a good smart, positive conversation with Pickens agent, resulting in a long-term deal getting done with Pickens. Does Ol Jerry do the talking and does Ol Jerry really do all this team business by his self, such as taking care of the salary cap and contract negotiations or are others involved in a panel type group decision. Ol Jerry doesn't give me much confidence in his contract negotiation talking skills, especially with this agent and their history. I am concerned.

Having a game you get shut out is not the same as a game you loaded around all day. It’s not about talking heads, you can see it
Not everything is how it seems when you are on the outside looking in...as almost ALL fans are. Where's the proof...beyond your "personal" eye test??? What's your expertise? Who do you know that's connected to the team and its coaches?

At the end of the day the man was second team All-Pro this year and likely would've been first team had the defense NOT been a complete dumpster fire.

glad you and Mary see it, some don't see it and act as if something is being made up about the ownership on this team!!
It's crystal clear Coogi. Big decisions are on the way, and we are all holding our collective breath.

Because he’s proven to be incompetent as a GM for the entirety of his time in the NFL, partcularly when it comes to contract negotiations and cap management.

Combine that with his colossal ego and thin skin and you get stupidity like we saw last year
YES, very well said, Ol Jerry is capable of much dumbness, he is a certifiable buffoon. I have very little faith in him being able to accomplish much of anything.

I hear you on that!!!

Not really like a third rounder. A third rounder would cost 10 times less and be unproven.

Secret Sauce. I learned if from Jerry & Son.
Speaking of secret sauce, looks like Ol Jerry is getting ready to negotiate a huge contract for Pickens to stay in Dallas. From 1 to 10 how much confidence do you have in Ol Jerry, to negotiate a long-term deal with this agent, after what happened with Parsons last season.

Difference is that the owners laid everything on the line to build the league we have today. The players came in to it without a pot to pee in or s window to throw it out of. People shouldn't be treating the owners like they're stealing the player's money. Because that is not even close to the facts.
Today’s NFL owners “laid everything on the line”? That’s just bad history and literally not true.

The NFL was officially founded in 1920 by the real pioneers owners of the NFL. And even guys that owned teams in the 40s, 50s and 60s are the REAL lay everything on the line guys.

Guys like George Halas, Wellington Mara, Art Rooney, Bert Bell, Lamar Hunt and in 1960 the Cowboys first owner Clint Murchison. They were trail blazers and made real risks that made the NFL Americas favorite sport. Most of those guys didn’t start making money on owning their teams for decades.

The current crop of owners? They all have ZERO risk. They will make a profit every single year and there is ZERO chance they go belly up. It’s the biggest sweetheart deal in sports.

The Players? If they are lucky they have 10 years to make their money. They are the ones putting their lives on the line. They are the real lifeblood of this sport. Without their talent, those rich fat billionaires who own these teams wouldn’t have a product.

Why the hell haven’t they talked to Pickens’ camp yet? It just shows how lazy this team really is. The best move is to offer him a contract by now. Sheesh.
I don't think there is another GM in the league, that does less for their football team than this clown GM does for this football team. This guy is always late to react to all contract talks, lets them drag out so he overpays every time, hard to understand. Flapping their jaws and saying nothing is what Ol Jerry and Son are best at. These buffoons are supposed to negotiate a contract with Pickens agent the best player agent in the NFL. LOL

To purchase a team does take a significant amount of money. No one is forced to own a team, play football, or watch it.

Agreed but these guys are already rich enough or they couldn’t buy a team. But once purchased, it’s the safest investment in sports. Risk? Zero.

I think it works both ways. Without the rich guys, you wouldn’t have a product either. And that includes the original rich guys.

IMO it’s easier to find a wealthy man who can own an NFL team than finding an athlete with NFL talent.
