Brace yourself for a Pickens holdout

IMO it’s easier to find a wealthy man who can own an NFL team than finding an athlete with NFL talent.
There’s 1700 players in the NFL. Do you really think there are 1700 people wealthy enough and willing to own an NFL team? It takes billions to buy a team nowadays and there are only about 900 billionaires in the US.

You’re right about that. I’m just saying once you’re rich enough to buy an NFL team- and if you actually do buy one - there’s no risk to lose that investment.

Yes you have to get rich first, but a lot of the current NFL owners are sons of NFL owners who did almost nothing to get there. Count Stephen Jones among those. What has Stephen ever risked and what’s his “special” talent?

It’s easier to me to be na NFL owners than being talented enough to play in the NFL.

Not everything is how it seems when you are on the outside looking in...as almost ALL fans are. Where's the proof...beyond your "personal" eye test??? What's your expertise? Who do you know that's connected to the team and its coaches?

At the end of the day the man was second team All-Pro this year and likely would've been first team had the defense NOT been a complete dumpster fire.
He played very good most of the season. But he was available for a reason and I haven’t seen any signs that reason wasn’t warranted. He’s is one of the most talented recievers in the NFL. But will he be once he gets paid? This is a roster changing decision. You sign him long term for top money and it’s not just my opinion you won’t get the best of him. The team that drafted him felt the same way and it’s nit like teams lined up to trade for him when we got him

If the Cowboys were a smart organization they would tag and trade Pickens for more draft capital. Not just trade him but do it quickly and quietly. This draft is deep with receivers as well plus the best player on the board could be a receiver. Pickens was great here but I don’t want the Cowboys to be the Bengals of the last two seasons.
If the draft is deep in wr then why not get rid of lamb and perkins, get 2 new young cheap wr ?
They could have alot of picks if they traded both of them.
Bengals did have 2 top wr and good qb and were still losing team.Paying star players only works in certain situations.
Paying dak was wrong because the situation wasnt right and it was too much $.
Lamb has always been overrated and is now over paid, to drop passes and smile about it .
Jerry and fans love him though, so he will continue to cruise and make many millions.
His stats are good because he gets so many targets. one year, maybe 23 or 24 he had more targets than any wr in nfl.
I'm so glad we're already making up our minds on how this is gonna play out.
It is the CZ way lol. I prefer to just wait and see what happens, it is part of the entertainment.
This is why we have to tag and trade. The guy is likley to hold out training camp and into the regular season if he's forced to play on a tag. And I get it. He forced his way out of Pittburgh and bet on himself signing a cheap contract last year. He wants his bag and so does his agent............. the same agent as Micah. I've read they are looking for 35M a year. So, there goes the defensive rebuild money. We were 7-9-1 last year with an offense overloaded with talent and a defense devoid of it. Paying Pickens would be running it back.
Tag and trade, I dont like the idea of this, but if he has same agent as micah, that would push me in that direction. However I would make him a offer first, that was fair , and see if he would take it.
This is what we can offer , we want you to stay, but if it is not enough then we have to tag and trade you.

Dallas offense is not overloaded with talent lol. They do have 3 good wr now but one is already overpaid (lamb)
one is under paid ( flournoy) and one is wild and needs new contract.
Dak many here would not say he is talent, Javonte did good, but again talented? Then we have 3 linemen who might be called talent, smith, booker, and the center? TE not much talent there, turpin, not much there, so really they have only 5 guys on offense who are talented. Definitely not overloaded, but ok.

Speaking of secret sauce, looks like Ol Jerry is getting ready to negotiate a huge contract for Pickens to stay in Dallas. From 1 to 10 how much confidence do you have in Ol Jerry, to negotiate a long-term deal with this agent, after what happened with Parsons last season.
Maybe he learned from it.

Maybe he learned from it.
I sure hope so Ol Jerry must improve the quality of his GM duties and pick up the pace get out of turtle mode. I do like the defensive tackle unit that has been built after waiting too long on Parsons, resulting in the trade to Green Bay.

He wasn't "available" per se. He was not a free agent. He was under contract and playing for the Steelers. So this is stretching things a bit. Do you really think if a guy like Pickens was cut that NO teams would show interest?

Definitely NOT overloaded. How some fans think this is beyond me. Like I've said MANY times before...each time they've let a pro-bowl/all-pro receiver go, the following season saw a regression in the WR group. Owens, Bryant, Cooper...and now it comes around again for potentially a fourth time. Just think of where this team would've been without Pickens when Lamb went down.

Williams IS talented but he needs some lightning to go with his thunder. A Gibbs type. Maybe Jaydon Blue becomes that in 2026. He certainly needs to. But more importantly, Schottenheimer needs to target his running backs more, which would take pressure off of Ferguson and Prescott specifically. This includes increasing the number of rushing attempts in the red-zone...an area where they trailed all NFC teams that made the playoffs.

No team tried to trade for him. Obviously if he’d been cut anyone would have signed him since it would have been free

I agree on this , he didnt throw to his RB's enough, or have good plays to get them open with room to rac.
And rushing more in red zone would be good lol, but most teams in nfl seem obsessed with passing once inside the 10.
I have seen cowboys and other teams have good drive with mostly runs, then get inside 20 or 10 and go all pass!! It boggles my mind lol.

Today’s NFL owners “laid everything on the line”? That’s just bad history and literally not true.

The NFL was officially founded in 1920 by the real pioneers owners of the NFL. And even guys that owned teams in the 40s, 50s and 60s are the REAL lay everything on the line guys.

Guys like George Halas, Wellington Mara, Art Rooney, Bert Bell, Lamar Hunt and in 1960 the Cowboys first owner Clint Murchison. They were trail blazers and made real risks that made the NFL Americas favorite sport. Most of those guys didn’t start making money on owning their teams for decades.

The current crop of owners? They all have ZERO risk. They will make a profit every single year and there is ZERO chance they go belly up. It’s the biggest sweetheart deal in sports.

The Players? If they are lucky they have 10 years to make their money. They are the ones putting their lives on the line. They are the real lifeblood of this sport. Without their talent, those rich fat billionaires who own these teams wouldn’t have a product.
As soon as you or these other guys start arguing with me about what I said or at the very least get the details right there's no point.
