He would have been a marginal short term upgrade. Not worth getting upset over.

This may be the best thing IMHO.. when first cuts happen we can most surely get some depth there. I really don't think our oline is as disastrous as most people think, especially not at this point. Last year when we went into the opening game with big questions at center and played well..This year, same line pretty much, with a BIG upgrade at center..Leary may be back by week one, alone with other guys getting healthy. If its about money, I applaud Jerry for not overpaying at this point..

for 2 mill a season with no incentives to push it over 3 mill (similar to what he got paid in NE) (my opinion)

I don't know...if that report is accurate, it sounds a little like the Brandon Moore deal, a guy who just has had enough. Sure you can throw more money their way and at some point, everyone might have their "too good to turn down" price. But if an older guy no longer has the burn to play and you have to resort to coaxing them back with more money...I'm at the point of agreeing with Winicki, it ain't worth it.

i think the oline can be much better IF they can all get and stay healthy. thats the issue. when healthy i think they can be ok, but no player is as good as he can be when he is banged up and the oddds of one of these guys getting banged up is very high. heck just getting them ready for game one has been a chore and may not happen

So be it. Let's get the current guys ready to go and keep an eye open for possible upgrades.

It's sad that we skipped over such a glaring hole all offseason.

The last preseason game, when our probable Day 1 starting lineup was all playing together and healthy, our OL looked very, very legitimate. I think people are writing off Bernadeau. He hasn't done anything this training camp/preseason to show that he can't handle the job. I know people are wary because of how poorly he played last season. I was big on Moore and Waters and still wish we could get one of them, but I don't think it'll be that much of a drop-off. The thing I don't want to see is us moving Fred from C and starting Arkin. I'd be comfortable with a Day 1 lineup of Smith-Livings-Fred-Bern-Free if Leary isn't healthy. The good thing about only having a hole at RG is it's a fairly easy position to fill. You can find a guy in the 3rd round. No need to trade up in the 1st round to fill your RG needs. Look at a guy like Warford (who we should've drafted this year). Guys like him could be had for a 3rd rounder and step in Day 1 and start. I'm comfortable with Bern starting there this year, if we can't get another vet before opening day. Next year we need to go DL the first 2 rounds and RG round 3. But no need to panic.

Good. I don't want guys who aren't 100% into it. Leary/Fred/Mack will be fine.

It's insane, there is nothing rational about believing that the same terrible line from 2012 will be meaningfully improved by the addition of a single rookie.

I mean, why do we need to keep adding TEs and WRs? We're not that thin in either position, not enough to go drafting more in the earlier rounds. It's absolutely pathetic how the OL isn't taken more seriously after the numerous injuries Romo has suffered the past few years and the number of times he's been hurried and sacked.

So this will be what the 3rd or 4th year in a row that we go into the season with the biggest weaknesses being the Oline and Safeties.

It's sad how this problem never seems to go away. Some teams have rebuilt their entire olines in that time frame.

Yea I was excited to add some vets but i'm not throwing the season away either. Our young guys have been playing well and besides that OL needs to be comfortable with each other why shift players right before the season, not a good idea.

Sort of whistling in the graveyard..aren'y you..?

I mean this OL has pretty much cost us dearly the last 3 years...whatever it's members.

Looks like the Cowboys are "settling" for Bernadeau at RG. I'm so tired of "settling" on the OL.

If indeed it is a money issue, then I do have an issue with it. They did the same thing with Holland, not like we are talking about a back breaking long term deal here, one season, show him the money.

I'm not losing sleep either way, but it does bother me that its money that keeps them from this transaction, especially when we are talking a 1 year deal.

I feel you.

Two main problems I have with our TE drafting fetish:
1. We've tried this two times before with a 2nd round TE and we didn't want to utilize the guys. Why spend such a high pick if you're not gonna give them a chance? Plus Hanna looks like he could (and probably will) be a legitimate #2 TE in a 12 offense.
2. If we are gonna spend such a high pick on a TE, why waste it on a "project" and why not spend it on a sure thing? Eifert was/is a consensus sure thing Day 1 TE. He could've been the successor to Witten and started immediately in a 12 offense this season. And I'm glad we didn't get Eifert in the 1st because I'm much happier with the Frederick pick. But if you're gonna spend a 2nd rounder on a project, at least spend a 1st on a sure thing instead.

not surprised. Jerruh feels like he got burned on both the Rivera and BIGG deals and does not want to pay much at all for a guard anymore. Sadly that means he also does not want to spend anything above a third at best for one. Which might not be so bad if the boys were NOT so absolutely HORRID picking there as regards O line.
