I'm an admitted Troy Smith fan and have been involved in some of the debates here between who is the better prospect between Smith and Quinn. Obviously, I'm of the belief that Smith will do very well at the next level.

The crux of my belief has been the fact that the guy is a leader, he wins games, and in the biggest games, he plays his best.

Without question, the same cannot be said of Quinn. This year, in ND's three biggest games and against their most difficult opponents (USC, Michigan and LSU) he has failed to impress.

So my question is this: what will be the effect on his draft status? There was talk of top ten, top five if I'm not mistaken before the college football season started.
Add in if Smith has a big game Monday night - does Smith get drafted before Quinn? In other words, measurables (height, basically) over production? Especially after the success of two proven winners on the college level from last year's draft who dropped for various reasons (Leinert and Young) and their success this year?

I like both QB's and right now if I had to take one over the other I would go with Troy Smith. I think he has made a major leep this season and has really looked great. As for Quinn I think he still goes high in the upcoming draft but this has been a tough season for him.

Quinn rarely seems to play well against good teams. I'm sure that there are NFL people who won't pay attention to this at all and he'll still go high. I do think that his stock will fall with a lot of teams though.

Either of you think Smith passes Quinn on the draft board with a big game Monday night?

On another note, I wish I could remember the name of the poster who basically told me I was lacking mentally because "all the draft boards" have Quinn as THE best prospect, and that I was similarly out of my mind by stating that those boards merely express an opinion - that the draft is an inexact science....

Anyway.

I would not be suprised if some scouts have Smith ahead right now. Regardless of Mondays game

I really don't see Quinn not being drafted before Smith. First off, Smith is playing with a GREAT defense. Second, Quinn I believe will make a faster transition to the NFL because of Weiss.

Me, personally, I'm not sure what to think anymore. Quinn hasn't impressed me all year long, when Troy Smith has.

The only reasonable negative Smith has is his height. He's slighlty under 6'0". Brees having success helps him out alot. Smith plays well in big games and is mobile. He has a very strong arm. I would put him a head of Quinn.

Yep, Smith is still going to be 5-11 or so, and that's a big problem.

Russell could be the best one if he gets good coaching and is willing to put in th work. He's big, strong, can move, and has a HUGE arm.

I know that's the knock on him, but I just don't see it as that big a factor. He did play in the Big 10, and they're pretty good about putting NFL sized defensive tackles and ends on the field with regularity. And you factor in his mobility and ability to slide around the pocket to create lanes to throw.

I certainly believe he'll have his difficulties, but honestly, I would not be surprised to see him perform along the lines of Young or Leinart.

Russell definitely impressed me last night, but that is the only game I've ever seen him play.

I'm of the opinion that every draft board probably has Quinn ahead of Smith at this point, regardless of what happened last night.

Chances are the Raiders will take a QB with the 1st pick. I would not be suprised if they go with Smith.

I would be very surprised. However, it would not be the first time.

What has Brady Quinn ever done to prove he's a better qb than Troy Smith?

I think Smith has been outstanding this year and has shown up big in big games. He does a very good job of getting all of his weapons involved and is also very athletic. He plays well from the pocket or on the move. I like Quinn as well but his season has been less than stellar this year and while I think he still goes in the 1st rd I don't think he will be the 1st QB taken.

I'd be shocked to see Smith go ahead of Quinn.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Brohm go ahead of both.

I'd be mildly surprised if Smith even goes in the first round.

The only reason Quinn was ahead on the draft boards, is because he is more the prototypical QB, size and all that. However, he has been inconsistant at times this year. Good game, bad game, medicore game, good game...

Troy Smith [and yes I am an OSU fan as I posted many times on here] and you have to agree. Has been consistant all year long.

However with a big game Monday, I don't see that affecting draft status too much, I think they will both go in the top 10, maybe even top 5. Now VY status was really helped with his win over USC and then he came out and did extremely well. So I can see that happening for Troy Smith the same way.

But for now, everyone looks for the size, and such.

Smith will be a 2nd or 3rd round pick just Like Drew Brees

Guys that i think will be drafted ahead of him (not saying they are better just the way the NFL is about short QB's)

Jeff Smoker
Brohm (But I bet he stays another year)
Quinn
Russell if he comes out; I bet he goes #1 if he leaves early

To name a few unless Troy Smith measures in taller than 6' (They have him listed at 6'1 but they never lie on those do they)

NFL draft is not about what College Players have done in College. It is certainly relivant but that's not the major criteria on which players are evaluated.

The NFL draft is about how College players project into the pros and I'd bet real money that Quinn is going to project much better.

That's all I'm saying.

I can see that argument for some positions, but qb is not one of them. If a qb can't deliver in college, how is he going to magically start doing it in the nfl? It's not like Quinn had good games, but his team just came up short. I think there is a real qb scouting problem in the nfl. They put entirely too much stock in looking like a qb. If Quinn played somewhere other than Notre Dame, I don't think he would be considered a top 5 pick.
