Wow. That is...wow. So there is a good shot he's not going to play for a big portion of next year also?

Man does that make the Cassel decision that much more looming and bigger. I mean if you resign Cassel you're obviously having to give up on Tom cause there is simply no way you can pay them both top dollar to stay there.

I think most people were assuming that Brady would be able to play next year even if not completely healthy. In my mind, if you aren't sure that Brady will be back then you have to franchise Cassel and keep him. Not sure what the franchise tag number is for QBs next year, but obviously QB is the most important position and you have to be sure that you have a guy capable of playing or you'll lose a whole season.

I agree that people were thinking he'd be completely healthy, but that was the whole point of the thread. Nobody knows if someone will rebound after an MCL and ACL tear. Thats a tremendous injury.

But in the real world, and not fantasyland where people just assume everything will be dandy, decisions are going to have to be made. Hard Decisions.

At this point if he's not going to be able to play next year I could see them signing Cassel long term and then either cutting Brady or trading him to someone wiling to give a shot to a QB who will be about 32 years old and coming off a knee injury that took him longer than most to rehab cause he was behind on it, for various reasons.

I'm sure there are still plenty of teams who would give him a shot, some might even trade for him before this coming season in hopes that he'll maybe get back in by the middle part of the year.

I'm surprised by these developements, to say the least.

I've seen reports on both ESPN and NFL Network that dispute this news. Both said he is on or ahead of schedule and should be good to go by training camp.

The last I heard he would be franchised and then traded. That was 2 or 3 days ago on ESPN. I would think there would be a decent bidding war for him.

I wouldn't believe a single word I heard about the injury status of a Patriots player. They are notorious for giving away absolutely nothing by way of updates.

They are not going to trade Brady. Any talk of them doing so is too ridiculous to address. And while I am sure they would love to keep Cassel as a backup, that is just not a realistic option. They are not going to franchise a backup quarterback and Cassel is going to want to go somewhere and be a starter - not to mention make more money than what New England is willing to offer. EDIT: While I doubt it would happen, franchising and trading is a realistic possibility. But they won't franchise him in an effort to actually keep him.

Brady's rehab will be done by September (and he will be married to Gisele by then :D). IMHO, if Carson Palmer can come back in 8 months from his injury, then Brady can come back in 12. Will he ever return to the caliber of play he has already established? We'll all find out 10 months from now.
