I keep thinking that if the Cowboys hadn't waited so long that he would have signed and played this year.

The cap issues made it impossible to sign him prior to June 1st. But from the sounds of it, it looks like we never bothered to reach out to him until the night Callahan texted him.

That was a mistake. Had they reached out to him earlier in the offseason, he might have been easier to reel in later. It appears he never got legitimate interest and decided to move on with planning for his family and a future without football.

It is not like they did not have any warning signs that Livings would be an injury concern, nor Bernadeau. It is just another case where the Jonesian strategy of just hoping for the best has come back to haunt them.

Likely true. But I do recall that Moore announced he was retiring about a month before we contacted him. Bryan Broaddus and others mentioned this every time people asked about Moore before we "signed" him

Brandon Moore graduated with a BA in English from Illinois, so I guess it's not a surprise it's a thoughtful and well written piece. I guess I'm surprised that his main draw to the Cowboys was the opportunity to reunite with Callahan, since I had been told on teh intrawebbings that all of his ex players distrusted and hated him.

This.

He sounds like a guy that is resigned to the fact that he is just a pawn in the game of NFL free agency. If Dallas would have reached out to him early he may have been more motivated to sign later.

With Dallas having a need at OG, and Moore having familiarity with Callahan, I can't imagine Dallas wasn't the first inquiry his agent made as soon as Moore was available. I'm also sure we wanted to get into camp and see how everyone looked. He's just picking up the story from the point of the most immediate contact from the club.

Well in the article, he mentioned that teams showed interest early, but it was nothing serious and probably along the lines of what happened with the Cowboys. "Hey, we're interested, but we want to look at these guys on the roster, and we'll get back to you around TC."

What a tremendous read, and a great look into his thoughts. Bright, introspective guy.

So great, in fact, that now I REALLY wish he was here. He and Waters.

I still think he made a mistake. It's six months and $2 million that his family could have locked away not a five-year deployment in Afghanistan. I think that part of his perspective might have been skewed.

It's clear that just a month earlier , he would have loved to play here.
We waited too long.
Anyway, I'm happy for him and his family.
