According to Pro Football Weekly on March 23, 2009 the Giants offered Cleveland a 2nd and 5th round pick for Braylon Edwards. Cleveland then requested the Giants also add Steve Smith in the trade and it was pretty much a done deal. The G-Men insisted on adding Hixon or Mario Manningham. Cleveland ended discussions

So in knowing this and Braylon Edwards apparent "stone hands" and the season he had in 2007 would you give up our 2nd, 5th and Patrick Crayton for Braylon or would you want him at all? Below are a couple of links of Braylon making plays. I like his knack for the end zone.

Braylon would become a restricted free agent in 2010 and I think a change of scenery would be good for him in a contract season. That whole Cleveland team didn't seem to reach their supposed potential last year and their star players have wanted out for a reason.

We need more of a finesse guy.

We already have our Edwards type.

Plus I don't think we can spend big money on a receiver considering we're paying TO a lot of money to play for Buffalo.

We like our big, stone-handed receivers to also be attention ******. Can he be an attention *****?

I gather Braylon really wants to play in NY, anyway.

I'd like Braylon...but he is basically the same player as Roy without the great hands.

He would just be too expensive probably.

I totally understand your point having T.O still on the books this season but Edwards would count $4.55 million against the cap for Cleveland and I'm pretty sure Crayton is about $1 million or so off that.

Braylon's signing bonus was much larger than Crayton's too and Cleveland would have to absorb that as we would Crayton's but that would almost be a wash. I do agree on the finesse front since we do have RW but could that not be Miles Austin entrenched as our 3rd WR?

The name recognition I couldn't care less about either but I think Braylon has a lot of talent and is still very young. I hear alot about him dropping passes last year but the year prior that wasn't the case at all. He really seems to have a knack for getting in the end zone too.

I think I would have liked having Braylon more than T.O anyways since they are built similarily minus the locker room drama and added youth. Braylon is not going to be a flash in the pan like some peopl think.

Done deal? Kind of a big difference between Steve Smith -- who appears to be a legit #2 WR and Manningham and Hixon

Cleveland apparently considered it a done deal as long as NY would add Steve Smith to the picks, yes. The Giants suggested the other WR's mentioned instead and Cleveland broke off talks, not the Giants.

I wonder given Stallworth's problems whether they are as keen to trade Edwards now.

Whatever the case, now that Winslow is also gone, they will need a player as well as picks.

Why would the Giants break off the talks if they were the ones making the lesser offer?

I don't think Stallworth and his 17 receptions are really a factor here.

Said the Browns broke off the talks, not the Giants. As soon as the Giants suggested Hixon or Manningham instead of Steve Smith the Browns stopped entertaining the trade.

Remember, Stallworth had a very hefty roster bonus, $4.875 million to be exact, if the Browns wanted him to remain on the team. Well the Browns basically paid it the day or two before Stallworth had his ordeal.

In regards to Stallworth, he's out on a 200K bail, has a probation of 12 pm - 6 am and pending the commish's sanctioning can still play football during these proceedings. So Stallworth is on the team.

The Browns look like a team that are ready to clean house and start a new regime with Mangini. Both their QB's have been in trade talks, most recently, Quinn, in the Cutler sweepstakes.

Believe me, Braylon is on the market for a 2nd, 5th and a solid WR/player.

Braylon is better than Roy IMO.

Two big strong young WRs starting.

Plus we get to rid ourselves of Crayton.

I'm not a big fan of his.

If Dallas were to do this (I can't imagine they will), we'd have 2 of the highest paid WRs, with neither of them an elite player.

What would Boldin cost if Edwards is a 2nd, 5th, and a decent WR?

I'd think he should cost similarly.

I would think more since he's a much better wr. I don't think he's the giants 1st choice though. they want Edwards cause when Eli gets pressured he used to just throw up prayers to his safety valve Plaxico who would out jump everybody. Edwards can do that better than Boldin. also with Warner coming back+ the success the Cards had last season, I just don't see them moving Boldin anyways.

I like RW but I also think Braylon is a better WR. The guy is still a stud and you're right, we'd have 2 very young WR's that would always have to be accounted for. I think 2 guys like this playing together would make eachother better too.

Double Trouble: I'm not a big fan of his.

I don't think Dallas would do it either but according to the OP's first post Braylon is on the Browns books for $4.5 million and that included that huge signing bonus being selected 3rd overall. Cleveland absorbs that and we don't We'd have to absorb Craytons but so cap wise this could possibly be close to a wash.

I also think Braylon before last season was being considered one of the elite WR's in the league. There is no reason to believe at his age that is still not a possibility. I would make this move. RW, Jason Witten, Braylon Edwards and Miles Austin are very young into their careers. Romo is just hitting his prime and our backs are extremely young.

Our offensive focus could then be on our o-line and whatever we have to do on defense we do draft and FA wise in the future. This would be a team with many years ahead of it. I like this idea. Never thought of it till now either. I've been a Torry holt promoter.

I would love to have Braylon Edwards, he is an elite Top 5 WR in this league and he is young with a knack for the end zone. The Giants screwed up not handing over Steve Smith but good for us.

No thanks. He's very talented but no thanks. WR is the most overrated position in football outside of kickers.
