Breer says Crosby could be traded this week, Cowboys among the interested

He can put two-hands on the ground just as well as three. He can play in any scheme. Vegas is moving to the 3-4 as well. This ‘he is strictly a 4-3 DE’ is nonsense.
I still say no thanks to Crosby. As I said, he is primarily a 4–3 end and has played that role for most of his career. We are trying to get younger, spend less, and acquire more draft picks—not put all our eggs in one basket.

Why wouldn’t you give even a first round pick for a sure fire player? He should have 3 good years left.
  1. He would cost us a first-round pick (or more)
  2. He has primarily played as a 4–3 defensive end and may not fit a 3–4 scheme.
  3. He would command a hefty $30–35 million per year.
  4. This would be another Jerry Jones signing, not a Parker pick.
  5. We need linebackers, safeties and corners more than just one star player.

1. He is worth a first. Maybe not to us

2. I have no idea I’d he is or not

3. His current contract with the years left averages about $30 mil per year. A very reasonable contract for a player of his caliber

4. You don’t know that

5. I’m with you on this. I think, and many won’t agree, that the linebacker position should be our #1 priority. I’m not a big college guy but Styles seems like the player I would prefer if he fell to us.

Nope. Wouldn't do it. unless its a 2027 pick
The problem is we aren't allowed to trade our remaining first rounder next year since the Q trade was 'the higher of the two' - so we don't know which one we still have. So a 2027 first rounder is out of the question. It would have to be #20 this year and probably more next year - leaving us with just one pick in the top 100 this year.

If you can agree to trade the better of your two firsts why can’t you agree to trade the lesser of your two firsts?

If we could get him for one of our first rd picks it truly is a no brainer
the guy is a consistent threat for 10 sacks a year
a good coach fits his scheme to his talent
if parker cannot figure out how to use him then Parker is a lousy coach

Well it goes without saying I’d rather have Crosby than guys like Taco. But in this draft? Would I rather have let’s say a Mansoor and Faulk over Crosby? I would. Especially if it means we spend money in free agency. This team is not gonna actively spend money on holes and trade for Crosby.

If you want to improve the defense then whey does it matter how they do it? We don’t need more All Pros we need football players.
Ive seen an interesting proposal of 12 and Odighizuwa for Crosby and 36. Difference in pick value is roughly the 26th pick in the draft, and Raiders also get the starting player the want back as well

If this trade happens, I think it might look something like this

I'm pretty confident the Cowboys have already talked at length with Christian Parker regarding Crosby fitting what he wants to do defensively.

I'm also confident that the Cowboys lacking picks in the 2nd and 3rd round will preclude them from trading for Crosby. Take away one or both first rounders this year and it's basically saying screw the 2026 draft for Dallas.

I’d do that. I’d even throw in draft compensation if need be.

I would too, but I just don't think the front office will do that based on its FA philosophy. It has shown that it is willing to make trades. I has not shown that it is willing to pay for top free agents.

Frankly, most of the best moves we've made the past few years have been trades. Ideally, the team would use trades, the draft, expensive free agency and cheap free agency, but we know there's one of those it does not use.
What I suggested would go against what they've done over the last dozen years. I was assuming a change in philosophy, not expecting it. If they want to contend for a championship, they're going to have to change.

If they solely build through the draft, and trade for a good player, that's no different than drafting a good player with the pick you gave up. It's not helping that much.

Wouldn't want to give up too much for him when he only 2 years left on his contract. Dallas isnt doing much next season so that only leaves one year with him before they have to resign him again.
