Brewster is learning the NFL game as a backup to Cowboys starting right tackle Marc Colombo

http://www.thestarpress.com/article/20090709/SPORTS/907090331

The Cowboys projected Brewster as a tackle or guard when they drafted him, but so far he has focused only on the tackle position
.
Cowboys offensive line coach Hudson Houck is considered one of the top coaches at his position in the NFL. Brewster loves the knowledge Houck has imparted on him.

"I think he's going to make me a hell of a player," Brewster said. "I love the way he teaches the game. He'll stay after meetings or come in on weekends to go over film with me."

HERE I thought the problem was at Left Guard ?

I think thats our bad spot

then next year they have to draft a LT or go buy one

I think we'll be fine with both Kosier and Holland there

besides, Colombo's deal is going to be up in a couple of years anyways

Leonard Davis, Kyle Kosier, and Montrae Holland is as good of OG depth you will find in the nfl. The coaches said from day 1 of rookie minicamp that they wanted to teach him one position at a time and that it was better to start with the position he is most comfortable with which is RT. Its also the more valuable position.

We've got 4 guys that are starting quality guards.

We've got 1 guy that's a starting quality RT.

Makes sense to me.

yep you want to be ready in 2-3 years when columbo will be 32 or 33, too old to play RT

we still will need to draft another OT at LT and possibly a guard and center,
leonard davis is 30 i think
columbo is 30 i think
kosier is 30
flozell is 33 i think

so in 3-4 years these players will be too old, havent heard anything good from doug free or mcquistan, so we do need some young blood at offensive line

i will scream next year in the draft if we take another defensive linemen or linebacker with our top pick in 1st round, we sure do need some stud offensive linemen and possibly a young stud wr, takes wrs generally 2 to 3 years to blossom

Funny, what I got out of that was the good news that Brewster hasn't even gotten to his first training camp yet and he's already at Valley Ranch watching film on weekends.

I think we may draft O linemen next year they way we drafted linebackers this year. IMO we need a 4 linemen C, 2 G, and a LT capable of protecting our QB. If Doug Free and Robert Brewster show something this year we may be able to just draft 3 linemen.

Cory Proctor is awful.
Kyle Kosier is maybe 2 years away from being done.
Montrae Holland is a FA.
Pat McQuistan is awful AND a FA.
Flozell is really nearing the end of his career.

Colombo and Bigg are on top of their games but aren't exactly young. Bigg could be a fixture at G for the next 5 years.

I have heard that they really like Doug Free and consider him our future LT, so why wouldn't they move Brewster to RT? Makes sense to me.

I am actually really glad to hear you say this. I'm not going to bother asking who you heard it from but I have definitely come to trust you when you say things like this.

Free has been a major concern for me because he didn't see the light of day when Flo was literally the walking wounded out there. I thought it might be Wade's penchant for sticking with his vets to the point of absurdity and it looks like that may be the case. Great to hear that they are high on him though.

I wanted Brewster to play offensive tackle. Left guard we are fine if Kosier and Holland can stay healthy. We need a backup center in case Gurode gets hurt. Holland has played right guard, so if Leonard Davis gets hurt then he can play that spot. Who knows what is up with Doug Free.

me to dam the need to draft two IMO

first round - LT
Anthony Davis*, Rutgers
Height: 6-6. Weight: 335.
Projected 40 Time: 5.24.
Projected Round (2010): 1-2.
2/9/09: Flawlessly made the transition from guard to left tackle, starting 11 games as a sophomore. Anthony Davis made the All-Big East Second Team.

Adam Ulatoski, Texas
Height: 6-8. Weight: 310.
Projected 40 Time: 5.21.
Projected Round (2010): 2

Sam Young, Notre Dame
Height: 6-7. Weight: 318.
Projected 40 Time: 5.20.
Projected Round (2010): 2.

or WR Dez Bryant

and get G an a C in the later rounds

Brandon Carter, Texas Tech
Height: 6-7. Weight: 360.
Projected 40 Time: 5.52.
Projected Round (2009): 4-5.
2/10/09: If you've watched any Texas Tech games, he's the crazy guy with paint all over his face who looks like he just escaped from the mental hospital. Brandon Carter was an All-Big XII second-teamer.

7/28/08: And you thought John Jerry was huge... Brandon Carter eats defensive linemen for dinner and tops it off with a few safeties for dessert. In all seriousness, the monstrous Carter started 13 games in 2007, though it's popular belief that he threatened to eat the entire coaching staff if they put him on the bench

Chris Hall, Texas
Height: 6-4. Weight: 300.
Projected 40 Time: 5.06.
Projected Round (2010): 5-6.
2/11/09: Qualified for the All-Big XII Second Team despite missing a bit of action with a knee sprain.

7/28/08: One of the more versatile linemen in this class, Chris Hall started at every position as a sophomore.

For the record, the same person who told me back in February that Ellis would not be on this team come Camp time and the same person who told me we were going hard after Roy Williams.
