I just saw that segment on NFL network a lil bit ago. Thought it was kinda neat.

Also, maybe even more interesting than the triplets: our defensive stats as a team are eerily similar to the 95 defense. Thought that was surprising. They didn't mention any specifics (that I heard anyway), just talked about how similar the defensive rankings are overall at this point.

That's pretty cool. What about offense vs offense.

I just checked his twitter TL and didn't see an offense to offense comparison. I guess you could add up the QB yards and the RB yards for a general guess.

we lost a big part of our pass rush in 95 when Haley got banged up and that was pretty much the end of him.

I keep saying we're a couple players on defense away from turning the corner. When that happens watch out. Marinelli knows how to put together a defense, and it is showing.

The 1995 team had easily the weakest defense of the three Super Bowl teams. Haley was in and out of the lineup towards the end of the year, and the pass rush was wildly inconsistent. It is funny because it was virtually the same personnel from 1994, which had the top defense in the league, I think.

2014 offense: 28 ppg (exactly), 402 ypg, 1.9 turnovers/g
1995 offense: 27.3 ppg, 364 ypg, 1.4 turnovers/g

2014 defense: 21 ppg (exactly), 344 ypg, 1.7 turnovers/g
1995 defense: 18.9 ppg, 315 ypg, 1.6 turnovers/g

Keep in mind that the average team scores 1.6 ppg more in 2014 than in 1995. Also, I haven't removed return TDs from the numbers.

These are stats you should throw in someone's face if they try to tell you Michael Irvin wasn't that good. Even by this era's standards that's an amazing season. He was doing when it DBs were actually allowed to breathe on you too.

Football Outsiders rates Irvin's 1995 as the greatest season by a wide receiver at least since 1989 (that's as far back as their analysis goes).

Interesting. Emmitt's '95 season got the lion's share of the attention at the time, as I recall. (It was appropriate too, given that he was in the process of setting the single season touchdown record at the time.)

Does FO adjust for what the competition was doing? My recollection is that, aside from Rice, guys like Sharpe, Rison and Herman Moore were also throwing up monster seasons in the early to mid-nineties.

How did you add 400 yards to the pace Murray is currently on? I'm not really understanding the math here. In 1995, Emmitt ran for 1773 yards on 377 carries in 16 games. How is he projected to run for more yards than he already has run for? And where did they get that number for Murray? He's on pace to have 2086 yards on 427 carries (according to math).

Edit: Okay, I guess it's total yards. Wasn't clear at first.

Yep...starting with the demolition job (Emmitt had 163 yds) put on the Giants in New York during the Monday Night opener...35-0...I think Emmitt's 60 yard TD scamper happened on the first drive...like being shot out of a cannon...the emotional release seemed pent-up from an off-season spent agonizing over the loss to San Francisco.

Murray needs to average 132.5 yards per game the next 9 games to break the all-time record. At his current pace, he'd fall 10 short of Peterson and 18 short of Dickerson.

You just made me relive it. Don't know that my emotions ever reached as high for the rest of that season. I'll never forget Emmitt turning back and waving goodbye to the Giants defenders chasing him. Among my favorite Cowboys memories.

He got penalized for taunting on that play!

It was his first carry of the season. I thought it was our first offensive play, but I can't find the play-by-play to be sure.
