Broaddus Calls Out Mo... time to worry?

If you don't call it a great year by "any" stretch of the word for a rookie CB then we simply disagree. ESPECIALLY the second half of the season.

Yes, we probably disagree on what the word great means.

Did he make the All Rookie team?

This injury does have me worried. It was announced to be an injury with very little missed time. We were told it was minor. Well, it's been quite a while now....and he appears no closer to returning.

If he's been out this long, and he's not improving, then do an xray or mri. Something doesn't seem right here.

No, I do not think it's time to worry. I don't really think Broaddus is out of line here either, he was pretty reserved in what he said him "not blasting" Claiborne, just voicing him opinion. But as for the greater matter at hand here, I'm not worried about Claiborne, we still have three games for him to play in, he's missed one game and a gravy game, in my eyes. I'll be worried when the regular season starts and he's getting torched.

Broaddus is not always right. Claiborne had a great year last year for a rookie and hasn't missed a regular game yet this year. So what he got dinged up in training camp. That guy is clown.

Broaddus is usually wrong. He just searches for something to say, whether it has any merit or not, says it, and collects his paycheck. Spag's writing style gets tedious sometimes, but I'd rather read his column. At least he tries to justify his position instead of just saying, "I'm an experienced observer" over and over and over. And, in my opinion, any observer of anything that has to constantly remind someone of his credentials is someone who is acutely aware of his own lack of real knowledge. I take anything Broaddus says with a grain of salt.

I think he took issue with Mo's interview he did yesterday where he said he wasn't sure when he'd be back.

It's on the cowboys.com

I didn't have any issues with what he said when I heard it today.

He's said the same about Dez, Lee, Matt Johnson and Danny Coale.

Broaddus explained it before that learning to deal with the soreness/bumps and bruises is part of being an nfl player and maybe he talked to a trainer who probably feels the same way.

Mo will be ready for sept 8 though. IMO.

The only thing worse than the offseason, is the preseason. No "real" football but constant practices makes the hype-****** and rumor monsters go into overdrive. This is a non story. Surely there is something positive he could be covering...

I watched the piece and I thought Claiborne's statement sounded silly.

I'm pretty much of the mindset these days that if the teams wants to hold key players out A LOT in preseason, I am AOK with it. I could see how Clainborne's time off could be just that. But I certainly don't know and am not one who gets all conspiratorial (if that's a word) about this stuff. As a fan does the whole secrecy thing bug me a little? Sure. But its not a big deal in the larger scheme.

I read every single tweet broaddus writes, because he has really good inside information on what the scouts/coaches/front office are thinking. Look through his tweets during the draft, he was nailing our potential targets in the late rounds, he knew a lot about our board. I mention this because if he has the same info we have, there is no reason at all to call out one injury or another...who knows what's serious and what's not. But keep in mind what Stephen Jones said last year:

"Mo Claiborne's got to get out there," Jones said on Friday. "The times he's been out there, it's been impressive. But he certainly can't make the club in the tub, if you will. He's got to get out there. It's time. We got to start having a mentality that we're going to play through things.

"You don't ever see Jason Witten missing practice, and he's going on 10 [seasons]. He just won't miss. So, we got to have the young guys step up and play better."

It's possible that someone he talked to on the team feels this way about Claiborne.

Now, if everyone disliked morris claiborne (for example, if he doesn't meet expectations the next few years, everyone on this board will think he is a bad human being for not helping their football team as much as they wanted him to), then everyone would be up in arms about him faking injuries. But right now people still like claiborne, so they'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

My personal view on any situation like this is that players should absolutely sit until they are fully healed, especially during training camp. I think coaches, the front office, fans, and the media push players to come back from injuries too soon, often at great detriment to their longterm health. I think it's disgraceful for a media member like Broaddus to call out a player for not playing THROUGH injuries (no player should be expected to play through an injury that has long-term health risks), and I think it's probably better for the team and for Claiborne for him to sit out until he is fully healed. Any time I read a news article about Jay Ratliff or Spencer not coming back to camp, I think "good, wait until it is fully healed".

The approach toward injuries is vastly different in the preseason than it is during the regular season. Players want to be as healthy as possible heading into the start of the season.

You said a mouthful there. I agree.

Getting his knee back to 100% is probably the teams only concern regarding Claiborne. Why would they put his health in jeopardy in the preseason?

Broaddus pisses me off. I've actually got into him on twitter couple times. Just another media outlet being obnoxious

You clearly don't know the first thing because Broaddus doesn't even work for a "media outlet," but for the Cowboys own website. His checks are paid by Jerry Jones.

Broaddus doesn't just pull this from thin air. He talks to the coaches and trainers and I'd bet anything his "concern" is coming down from coaches or perhaps Jerry himself.

He had an ok year.. not great by any stretch of the word.

I agree. It was an ok year, but not the type year you'd expect from a player drafted that high and also considering what we gave up for him. Also, the hype that he received from the staff after the draft didn't hep his perception. I still think he will be a heck of a player and I am by no means worried.

I sure don't see him as as being close to the talent level as Primetime, who they compared him to when they drafted him. I don't see him as being near the level of his college teammate P. Peterson. He may become a solid CB, but he is not showing the star potential that surrounded him on draft day. I expected a little more considering what the team gave up for him.

I posted exactly what you said when we drafted him and got blasted. He was OK last year, but nothing special.
