Elite pass rusher could put them over the top. Plus all that cap space. They can sign any need

Not saying they will or should. Just a thought

Yes, I've posted it elsewhere, but ~$21m puts him just under Donald, Mack as a percentage of the cap. He's just under them in terms of a player, and ahead of pretty much elsewhere.

He was an absolute monster against the Seahawk.s

It's definitely not far-fetched to me. Why over pay for Trey Flowers in FA(bidding war) when you could get a guy like Lawrence who your DC knows.

what's our goal? have lots of draft picks? or win championships? Tank is the best pass rusher we have. Gregory and Irving are both suspended. we have Taco and some chopped lettuce after that..... is this a way to win championship? are we so sure that we are going to get a good pass rusher that can have similar production in the draft from a mid 20's spot?

heck yeah he will cost money, but you have to have good players to win and good players cost money.

sorry, not sure I like the idea, unless we know that the alternative is better or just as good.

Ok thus the reason I said pure speculation just as pure speculation as to the amount Dallas actually offered him as well .. until someone confirms the logistics of the offers ( which they shouldn’t ) anything any of us say is speculation all opinions are being based on such

Fine, but you want to commit that money yearly knowing he has been inconsistent and has back issues? We’re talking 12-13% of the total cap on one player who we know has had bad years and who you point to one game to make your case. Sorry, I want more proof and consistency before making the type of commitment he is asking for. Monster against the Seahawks, great! Where was he against the Rams?

I am open to all possibilities. I prefer Lawrence back because even with him, this was still a middling team in terms of getting after the QB.

But if he's going to be a bit unrealistic in his asking price and we could get a ransom for him, I would certainly move him and then spend his $20MM in other areas.

That being said, with tight purse strings Stephen involved, if they were to trade Lawrence, I have little doubt they wouldn't spend that $20MM saved in cap space appropriately. They'd likely nickel and dime some bargain DEs and then talk about needing the rollover cap space for future contracts. Blah, blah, blah.

I wish I had more faith in our front office to figure out a great solution to the Lawrence issue.

I am all for trading him.

I would actually take a 2nd Rd pick and get back what we paid for him.

I would also call Gruden in Oakland and see if we could get back our #1 we traded for Cooper.

    Why not?

We would have to be crazy to pay Tank $20 mil even on the Franchise Tag.

He is not that quality of player.

I'm getting there on the trade front Hawkeye. If he's gonna wait out surgery until a deal is signed, that wreaks of selfish to me. I understand getting all he can but have the damned surgery done and be ready to play. First and a third, hellz yes. So it's sets the defense back for a year. No more than the player delaying surgery and missing 1/3 of the season

First off stop talking about championships while Garrett is still the head coach. It just makes you look silly. Seconds, yes Tank is the best pass rusher we have but that doesn’t justify paying him more than he is worth or has earned. Who needs similar production from a mid 20s pick when they come at 1/5 of the costs? Tanks production didn’t win us anything last year. I’d take a 1st round DE, and 3rd round RB, and ET all day every day over Tank and his inconsistent dominance.

I agree, but you just cant pay a guy like that to be the highest paid defensive player in the NFL. You HAVE to be able to draft replacements. Cant always be about THIS YEAR. If you can get a top 15 pick and a 3rd for him then you take it. You can use that money to draft his replacement and sign guys. Give me 4 quality Dlineman over 1 great guy and a bunch of jags.

The Colts have a pretty low pick, but would they even want to make that trade? Because apparently unlike the Cowboys, other teams watch tape of other players from other teams, and I'm sure they are aware Lawrence was a beast for half of last season, and vanished for the other half.

Amazing how some people are jumping out of their chairs for a late 1 and 3 for an elite d linemen. Dlaw for Taco Charlton and Jourdan Lewis sound fair? No thanks.

If he’s going to hold out, at some point you have to make a tough decision.

If he’s asking for a ridiculous contract, what are the Cowboys supposed to do? Buckle and pay him?
