Not picking the bpa cost is Shady McCoy and let him fall into the laps of of a division rival meanwhile leaving us with a dumpster fire of a draft
Very true.
The good thing is, since that draft Dallas has done a phenomenal job of taking the best players available.
2010 - Dez Bryant and when a player Dallas had ranked as a first rounder fell to them in the second, they pulled the trigger (Sean Lee)
2011 - Tyron Smith and then again, when a highly ranked guy fell into the second, they took him (Bruce Carter).
2012 - The Mo Claiborne trade was obviously not great for Dallas but he was the highest ranked player remaining on their board so they followed their board even if the move up was ill-advised. Tyrone Crawford was the highest on their board in the 3rd as well. Plus the players they liked had the trade not happened (Brockers and Wagner) have both turned out very good.
2013- They didn't like what was there in the middle of round 1 and moved back taking their highest ranked OL at the end of the round (T Frederick). Obviously a good trade in this instance. I do believe that Escobar, Terrance Williams and J Wilcox were all three at or almost at the top of their board when they picked them.
2014 - Martin was their top guy left and they did the right thing. Lawrence was the highest left and they made a trade to go get him.
Recent history shows that we don't have nearly as much to worry about these days when it comes to draft decisions.
EDIT: Last year they even mentioned getting free agents at the right spots so that they could take the BAP when the draft rolled around. With Dallas taking an OG in the first when they so clearly needed defense, this staff has proven they'll take the best available.
