Totally agree. I like Broaddus but I don't think he was all that as a scout or he would still be doing it. And half the people who get fired from a job say it was over one little nitpick while glossing over the things that they did poorly leading up to the incident.

I like him, too, for what he is. But you just need to hear he and Brugler discuss the same player once to see the difference between a guy who tries hard and has been around the block and a guy who really knows what he's doing. You have to imagine the guys employed by NFL teams mostly all fall into that latter category.

So Broaddus was a pro personnel scout?

I believe people forget that coming out of Oakland, Al Davis had labeled Woodson a bad character risk that didn't care about football.

Green Bay, with its football only surroundings, probably were the best place for him.

I can't imagine Parcells being so petty that he would fire him over 1 disagreement.

Surely there were more factors like they thought they could upgrade his position with someone else or maybe Broadus was wrong on some other players. Who knows... I just can't imagine 1 disagreement getting the guy fired in that line of work.

Debating player acquisitions should be the norm.
He got tired of hearing every sentence By broaddus start with "yeah", followed by 5 more in that same sentence.

But if Jerry is going off his board...He seriously messed up some of those picks.
Broaddus would not have had anything to do with construction of the board.

Scouts scout and collect the information. Other people would be in charge of construction and execution. Namely people like Larry Lacewell and Tom Ciskowski

I don't believe Broaddus on this. It was probably more to do with "how" rather than who. As in, he doesn't work well with others, gets butt hurt (wrong about Dak liked the practice squad safety better for example) and is more of a yes man than most think (waits for Dane Bruger then says yep)

I guess Parcell's comments on Woodson gives us insight into T.O. and whether it was truly Parcell's decision. T.O. was forced on the big Tuna by Jerry Jones.
that was a big mistake and I am a JJones fan

Parcells made a lot of mistakes

As does everyone so being flawless isn't what made Parcells a great coach. He turned around a piss poor team in a short span of time. Had a more competent group of coaches followed him, his time in Dallas would look a hell of a lot better.

He? You do realize there's more than just one scout and more than just one person who puts a board together right?

Woodson was labeled a malcontent. IIRC, there was one play against Woodson we had when he was with the Raiders and Parcells was the coach and it was one of the sorriest jobs of tackling and effort you'll ever see. So, I could see Parcells' point. However, Woodson turned around everything in Green Bay. Sometimes certain situations are toxic.

I'm not totally a Parcells fan, but I think the one thing Parcells KNOWS is how people identify and relate to him. He openly told Jerry Jones, "I'm not for everyone" and if "We don't win, and win fast his coaching style wouldn't go over very well".

Parcells is a hard ***, that sort of picks and chooses when he wants to be a hard ***. He might let player who is a hall of fame talent get by with a lot, and cut a marginal player for a minor transgression.

He didn't want to deal with problematic players because he would only take so much from a player before he took some sort of drastic action. I think that is why he referred to T.O. as "The Player" generically, and avoided dealing with him. He let Jerry do the hand holding with T.O. and avoided dealing with him as much as possible.

Bringing in T.O. was a mistake. I don't know that much about the Woodson deal, but if a coach really doesn't want a player due to a personality issue, forcing the issue is generally a bad idea.
