Earlier in the week, I stopped by Director of College Scouting Tom Ciskowski's office at Valley Ranch. He is always in a great mood and enjoys the back-and-forth when it comes to talking about football. I have known Tom since my early days in the league with the Packers, and then later in my career, starting in 1999, I had the great pleasure of working with him.

On my visit this day, Tom was sitting at his desk when he got the question out before I could, "Well, what do you think?" I paused for a moment and started in with many of the same thoughts and concerns that I had written about since the draft, as well as during the OTAs and minicamps for DallasCowboys.com.

I spoke of the new scheme on defense under Monte Kiffin and how that will affect DeMarcus Ware , Anthony Spencer and Barry Church . Tom was in agreement with me in that he did like the change and talked about the fits with the current players on the roster.

There was concern if they had done enough at defensive tackle, but he has a great deal of confidence in Rod Marinelli and how he is going to work with young guys like Sean Lissemore and Ben Bass . We talked about the safety spot and the hope that people can see what the scout's saw in Matt Johnson before the 2012 draft.

Ciskowski was confident in running back Joseph Randle and what he could bring to the offense once he was brought up to speed. I didn't totally disagree with him, but I thought thatLance Dunbar and Phillip Tanner would be better options early. Ciskowski thinks that Randle could play at a very high level and felt like they got a steal in this draft in where they selected him.

Randle could be the most interesting and important pick based on Murray's injury history.

Still looking for that interesting insight Broadus promised in the title. Let me know if you guys spot it first.

Most of us could have penned that piece just from what we have seen in here...nothing new or overly insightful, unless you have shut off the part of your brain that recognizes football during the off season

As a Jeremy Parnellite I found Ciskowski's feeling on the Free competition insightful (or maybe more hopeful). Other than that, I agree with the rest of you.

Obviously, he wrote it in a way that was endearing towards Tom.

I'm thinking fellow scouts have an unwritten agreement not to divulge certain information.

As for our safeties, I'm as hopeful as the next guy but to sit here and say Matt Johnson "is on his way" to anything is just plain silly. There's no evidence to prove he will be a future pro bowler or a roster cut.

The comments section was more entertaining than the actual article IMO.:D

I offered Ciskowski my views on the right tackle spot with
Doug Free and Jermey Parnell. My gut tells me that Free will run away with the job, but Tom wasn't so sure. He really did like how Parnell made some nice advancement when he got the opportunity last season and was looking forward to the battle there.

This was about the only thing I found interesting in the article. Ciskowski is obviously going to like all of his draft picks, but the blurb about Parnell is interesting.

I believe that Parnell can be better than Free, but he must get real game experience to get better. He could probably improve more in 8 starts than with 10 years of practice only.

I found that interesting as well. Obviously the team likes Free more than the majority here. I thought Parnell had a better chance than what he's implying but we'll see. I can't say I'm happy about RT but I feel better now than a few months ago before looking closer at Free and Parnell. There's just so many questions on the OL.

"It's best if I not say anything, but that won't stop me from publishing an article!"

Yeah...

All that needed to be done was give us cretins one nugget of info that we didn't know before and the article would have gone from zero to hero.

The thoughts on Parnell and Free are worth the read IMO. He seems to have a high opinion of Free and not Parnell. I think Free is a 40-50 %er RT and I thought Parnell might be able to beat him out. Still do but I have to consider what he's saying. Maybe he's got some inside into.

I actually really liked that article. Obviously, BB is handicapped in what he can divulge, but he also confirmed what the scouts still think about Matt Johnson. And, I think, the tidbit about John Randle is very telling. And I'm not a big fan of that Randle pick, myself.
