On whether any of the top 5 offensive linemen will be available for the Cowboys:
“I just don’t see enough quarterbacks and wide receivers and running backs, enough skill guys to go early enough on the board to drive some of those skill guys down. I think when we’re talking about these offensive linemen, Lane Johnson being the third tackle. He very well could go in the top 8, maybe even to San Diego at 11. To me, there’s too many teams that covet these types of guys.”

On possibly picking a defensive lineman with the first round pick:
“I think the need at defensive tackle is really more important. Now not to say they couldn’t take a defensive end. (Bjoern) Werner seems like he’s the guy that’s sliding. I think Ansah is a very intriguing player. He and Dion Jordan from Oregon are very intriguing type of players, probably more in that 10 to 12 range. … If it came down to (Werner) or a defensive tackle, say (Sheldon) Richardson from Missouri, I think the defensive tackle spot seems to be the one they need, the one-technique or the three-technique to kind of be that guy in this Monte Kiffin 4-3, you know the guy that is going to get up the field. It will allow them a little more flexibility if they can grab a guy like Richardson.”

Richardson would be a nice addition to a d-line that is a little long in the tooth. What worries me, though, is whether he would be given a legitimate shot at competing for a starting job or if he will start out as a rotational player.

I'd like to see some of youngsters get a fair shot at a starting job.

The Dline will be rotational anyway.

If Cooper goes before 15, then I think the pick will be either:

Sly Williams
Eric Reid

Both most likely in a trade down. If they can't trade, then Williams is probably the pick.

I don't know that they would pick Warmack.

Eric Reid in the first round is to much of a reach IMO

A lot of the analysts are saying he is climbing the boards fast. Charlie Casserly had him going to Dallas the other night.

Would not be shocked if he goes 1st round at all.

I'm beginning to think that there is a better chance that Warmack will be there at 18 than Williams.

I still think there's at least a 50% chance that either Cooper or Warmack are there at 18.

I think Warmack will be there at 18, just don't know if they would pick him. Cooper offers more value to them. I like them both, so would be disappointed if they took someone like Vaccarro over Warmack.

Supposedly Cooper and Vaccarro are top options at 18.

If the quality linemen are not available Garrett and Jerry gets what they deserve for not fixing the problem in last year's draft. They had the potential to walk away from the draft with at least two starting linemen, but they wanted to trade up.

You hear conflicting information about Vaccarro. You hear where they really like him, but then you also hear that they don't view him as that much better than the safeties that they can get later in the draft. My gut is that they have Cooper ranked ahead of Warmack and Vaccarro ranked but they have a very similar ranking for the latter two.

If you the pick in the first round is not an OL, you won't see the Cowboys select one until the 4th round or later, if at all.

There is a better selection of DL, S, WR, TE, QB, RB in the second round and beyond than there are OL. Plus you add in the penchant for selecting a small school, injured project, and that makes it less likely that an OL gets selected later on.

Like I have said for a while, the same 5 OL will be starting on opening night!

Not sure Cooper will be the one to make it to us, but I still feel pretty confidant there are going to be 2 WRs and 2 QBs taken before 18.

It hardly matters how the QBs grade. If you don't have one, you're going to reach for one. And there are some interesting prospects in that second level where teams will be able to find an intriguing guy and convince themselves they can stash and develop him.

It will be rotational but I'd rather see some of the young guys get a fair shot at starting for once.

Dallas has a history of preferring experience over youth but at some point the young guys, especially middle to late rounders, have to get on the field.

I'm hoping for Cooper, Warmack or Richardson to be there at 18. If none of them are available when the Cowboys pick I would not be opposed to a trade down to the bottom of the 1st if it was a favorable opportunity.

Well, you wouldn't necessarily have to have a year one starter. But you probably would want someone who could start in year 2. At DT that would most likely be a replacement for Ratliff. If you get a DE, then you don't need to sign Spencer to a long-term deal.
