Blitz pick up a must. Romo has to stay up right and healthy.

My concern here is Lance Dunbar.

If he's going to have a larger role, Dunbar will have to prove he can pass protect.

You can't have a substantial presence in the passing game if you can't physically handle blitzing linebackers.

I know Darren McFadden can do it, so can Joseph Randle, even if he needs more reps to hone his technique.

Dunbar is the one with the most to prove in this aspect of the game.

I have a feeling Terrance Williams is gonna have a breakout year. I also think Claiborne will surprise some people (but I've been saying that for years).

I agree with you on Morris. Claiborne has gotten a bad rap in this league and on this board. Im not saying that he has not performed like we expected BUT our defensive philosophy in the beginning messed him up, and then injuries hurt him as well and so his confidence was a bit off. He has nothing to lose now, people have written him off. Claiborne is capable of playing good football.

And that's where his slight build keeps him out of games. The coaches can praise his positive aspects til they're blue in the face.
He's still a smurf in a land of Gargamels.

If Mo Claiborne and Tyler Patmon continue to perform well, it's going to keep putting pressure on Carr to justify that $8M salary.

Its a complete pipe dream, but if Claiborne earned a starting job next to Scandrick with Carr and Patmon the backup - then Byron Jones starting at FS - our secondary would be exponentially better than last year.

I'd prefer that but my guess he is either going on a dive, delayed handoff, screen or sprint out etc and won't need to do traditional pass blocking often.

The offense isn't going to want to be overly predictable when Lance Dunbar is in the game.

If he's only trusted to do a few things, defenses will quickly catch on.

Dunbar needs to show progress as a player if he wants more offensive snaps. He will never be a full-time runner, but still must be capable of doing everything to earn the trust of the coaching staff.

This is a big training camp/pre-season for Dunbar.

A multi-year extension could be riding on his performance.

I agree in part but there are only so many ways to use a back in a not a pocket passing play. As long as they aren't all pitch outs and corner plays then that will help keep the defense honest on running plays. The screens and quick outs are more of a problem like you are talking about. They will have to have him pass protect enough for the defense not to look for the traditional 3rd down back plays.

I also thought it was interesting how BB said that Linehan flat out refused to play Ryan Williams and that's why he was cut.

If Williams wasn't able to contribute in the passing game as much as I've heard (protecting the QB in particular), I can certainly see this being the case. With Williams being on the field, we'd be telegraphing to the defense our intention to run the ball on that down.

He's 5-8 and 196 so he should be able to block some.

If he wants to get time on the field that isn't garbage time, he will have to.

Teams will blitz the hell out of the Cowboys when Dunbar is in the game until he proves that he can hold up in pass protection.

They can slow that down some with screens, quick outs, and tosses but eventually Romo will eat it unless he throws it away real quickly...which he isn't known for.

Hayden still could surprise.
Jobber I think we've seen enough of Hayden by now that if he had any surprises up his sleeve he would have shown them by now. Like most I felt he should have been replaced last year but here we are a year later. Once again I doubt he makes the final 53 because frankly he is a JAG.

LOL. That's what we said last year.

It's hard to kill a Hayden. They have carbonite-titanium underwear.

Hands down, first and foremost, priority ONE!!!

Give me 8 total yards a season and 1200 blitz pickups.......(exaggerating)

This team goes as Tony Romo and the OL goes. Without a competent back recognizing his responsibilities...........other than running..? The season could get ugly.

Think Weeden....
