Many people think Frederick played better at OG than at OC in college, so this wouldn't be shocking.

Of course, it's also true that many people don't recognize that Phil Costa has developed into an NFL-capable player at OC over the last two years. We'd be perfectly fine with him taking extended snaps for us there if that's the way the talent sorts itself out. I still think it's more likely that we play Frederick there, though. But I'm looking forward to seeing how it plays out.

Why can't Costa play guard? I want Frederick at C...as far as I am concerned we have a longterm starter there in him.

How can you say this when he hasn't played a down in the NFL preseason or regular season? I hope he is, but we need to see how he performs on the field.

I've always thought that Costa has gotten the short end of the stick. He was one of those players that was really hurt by the lockout and has had some injury problems. I don't know if he is a long term solution I just don't think we really know everything there is to know about Costa yet.

i know i get tired of watching romo have to "bunny hop" a majority of the time when costa is at center.

I can say it the same way that people tend to think Costa is a longterm answer at C. Also, when Jerry pretty much says he is going to play center...I tend to think he is going to play C.

Well, you're certainly entitled to say anything. Again, I hope you're right.

I think Costa would be valuable as a swing guy, but if we are going to expect a rookie to be able to play both C and G why can't we expect the same from Costa? It seems he is only looked at as a center, which lowers his value tremendously IMO. He is just not good enough to only offer options at one position.

This is my feeling as well. The guy was drafted to be a Center, don't take that position lightly. But in this case, I'll allow the Coaches to coach and see what they think is best.

Costa doesn't have the size (or arm length) they want at OG as a starter, but of course if he's a backup he would be considered an emergency swing player at both positions.

The ultimate solution would be to let Frederick and Costa switch back and forth on the center-guard position. Rotate every now and then . Let Frederick ease in to he starting center job over time so it does not overwhelm him. Then you will be killing two birds with one stone.

I would hate to guess the 3 interior offensive line spots at this point.

I just had an idea...They have Costa, Frederick and Bernadeau as the interior guys. They wait until the

Broaddus keeps saying that Costa is too small to play Guard; however, he is listed at 6-3, 313 and is reported to be very strong in the weight room.

I could see the arm length issue being more of a problem than lack of size.

I agree that may be the case. In the grand scheme, does it really matter whether we add a stud G or a stud C? As long as he is a stud at one of the sports it's irrelevant which one it is. Ultimately, most people think we are going to have to replace the G's and RT too.

I think it only becomes an issue if his being a stud center means we have to play the 6th (or worse) best lineman because the 5th guy can't play guard. It's not a critique of Frederick.

I honestly think Frederick is a better guard than center. Watching the videos of him when he was at guard and when he was at center, I thought he was a beast at guard and just okay at center.

The year Frederick started at guard, he had Konz and Zeitler there with him. Might have effected things a little.

But wouldn't that be a great line to have today, eh what?

I don't think it will matter, as I see Costa getting hurt. No reason to knock on wood, I just don't see a guy with back problems making it that long at center, or any other Oline position.

If the team Is going to change schemes that would help Costa then I'd be willing to entertain the possibility that Costa could be a decent starter, but if it's the same scheme I've seen enough of Costa to think otherwise.

I don't want to mess with Fredrick's head by throwing too much at him at once. If the reason they are doing this is because they don't have faith we have a serviceable LG on this roster then we need to sign Brandon Moore to a 1 year contract, and get a Guard in the second or third round of the draft next year. If this zone blocking scheme fits Costa's skill set then make him move to LG if not there is a pretty good one sitting there waiting to be signed in Moore.... Plus Smith-Moore-Fredrick-Leary-Free (Parnell) is a pretty good line especially to run the ball

I'm all for putting the best 5 O lineman we got out there. LA could probably have been an above average LT, but instead he was a hall of fame Guard.

Perhaps Frederick will shine at G.
