The ultimate solution would be to let Frederick and Costa switch back and forth on the center-guard position. Rotate every now and then . Let Frederick ease in to he starting center job over time so it does not overwhelm him. Then you will be killing two birds with one stone.

But they're long enough to play center? :confused

I am all for playing the best 5 OL-- regardless of where they line up. What is the use of having guys with "position flex" if we get hung up on what position they play?

If Livings/Costa/Frederick is better overall than Livings/Frederick/Bernaudeau-- I have no problem with putting a mauler like Frederick at OG. The bottom line is that both Costa and Frederick have a lot to prove at TC-- it will be great to see who thrives with competition and who wilts.

That just sounds so simple.

The year Frederick started at guard, he had Konz and Zeitler there with him. Might have effected things a little.

But wouldn't that be a great line to have today, eh what?

He also bulked up too much his final season. He was reported to have been over 340 while playing Center but closer to 325 when he played OG.

According to Broaddus, Costa wasn't suited to playing in last year's man blocking scheme. Since we're transitioning to a zone blocking scheme this year, it's his contention that Costa's abilities fit that scheme now.

It doesn't matter what scheme they are playing, Costa will get Romo killed when they pass the ball.

How easy some of you forget what a horrible C Costa has always been. Sure he played well in one game last year against an injured Ravens defense, but also remember how terrible he was the year before. Being bull rushed into the back field on almost every play, the inside blitz that he could never pick up. Even late in the year, the Christmas day game against the Eagles, in the first possession of the game, he gets Romo knocked out with a hand injury.

If Costa plays any significant snaps this year, don't expect much of anything........

We won't switch to a zone blocking scheme.

I heard this same stuff last year. It won't happen.

Callahan is known for teaching the Zone Blocking Scheme. It has been reported that in his 1st year with the Jets that he ran more man blocking while teaching them the Zone Blocking concepts. In his 2nd year he switched to a primarily Zone Blocking Scheme.

Pollack's primary NFL experience has been with teams that ran the ZBS.

Interesting stuff! I know I was puzzled by the zone/man blocking talk, vs what was happening on the field last year. I imagine I wasn't alone there. Of course, when you are down to you 4th (or 5th) string center, the wheels probably won't spin true.

This will be an important thing to follow in training camp and the preseason games.
