Broncos | Team has approximately $4.5 million left for signings
Mon, 13 Mar 2006 20:41:27 -0800
<A href="http://www.kffl.com/link/137">Jeff Legwold, of the Rocky Mountain News, reports the Denver Broncos have about $4.57 million left in workable salary cap space to sign a front-line free agent. The team currently sits at $90.2 million against the $102 million salary cap. That includes the team's recent re-signings of RB Ron Dayne, DL Gerard Warren, and TE Mike Leach. The team will need to make sure there is space to sign players they pick on draft day.

Looks like they are out of the TO sweepstakes,, dont think they can get him and leave anything left to do anything with as far as signing there 9 Draft choices.

what about the chiefs?

I was just going to comment on that. KC has about 7 according to the posters on their board.

4.5 is plenty of money to sign Owens.

Backload it.

Perhaps knowing both of these #s JJ has waited to announce our FA signings until after wednesday to appear more powerful in case of a bidding war for TO.

This is TO.. he is going to want at LEAST 7 MILLION PER.. and no mater how stupid he acts at times,, he isn't THAT stupid. Look for TO to sign for around 13-15 mllion Bonus and 7-9 per year. i doubt anyone gets him for under 5 million cap hit this year. I would be shocked if that happens.

The Skins are managing to squeeze in signing bonuses of 11.5 million for about 2 million hits due to the proration.

Owens won't get a deal a lot bigger than that.

4.5 million is enough to squeeze him in this year, I promise you.

Not when you have to sign 2 first round picks and 5 other draft picks not including comp picks

Anything is possible.. But if JJ wants him,, we have much more cap then either KC or Denver.. and he will put an offer they can't match.. add that to the incentive of playing the birds twice a year and I think TO wouldn't hesitate. And the skins are signing young players to 6 year deals.. TO is not that young and I doubt he gets more than a 3-4 yr deal.

The 4.5 million is what will be left over after draft picks.

They actually have ten million roughly. They are already counting the money they need to sign their picks.

What is left will be 4.5 million.

Which is quite enough for Owens if they want him and he wants them.

I can't remember,, was it Denver or KC said they would offer him a 1 year deal but that was about it.. I dont think 4.5 or 7 gets him with only a 1 year deal.

Denver still has plenty of work to do with what they have left not including T.O.

I don't see how they can get it done and still have enough to operate during the season.

That would be enough to get TO signed, if it was a longer-term deal... give him a hefty signing bonus, and a minimum wage-type base salary this year... here's an example--
you sign TO for 3 years, 20 million, with a 9 million signing bonus... make his base the about 1.5 million... TO is pocketing 10.5 mil his first year, but it would only count 4.5 million against the cap that first season (3.0 million in prorated signing bonus, 1.5 million in base)...

And of course, the Broncos might have a cut or contract renegotiation available to them to free up more room... that's just where they stand right now...

I'm not saying those are the kinds of numbers that would be on the board, you understand, just using them as an example of hoe the job could get done...

The problem is that they can't get into any sort of bidding war. The mere threat of one upping their bid would just get them to bow out.

Randle-El is half the WR that TO is. I dont care if you think Washington overspent on him, TO is getting a bigger deal than that. Period. As much as you want to talk about the man's demeanor and character, all that really means jack ****. He's a top 3 WR, and he will get paid like that.

I bet he doesnt get that kind of money, and if he can attain those numbers I'd also bet its only through team and individual incentives built in...nobody is going to give TO a big contract with alot of guarnanteed or up front money, if they were they'd simply send the Eagles a 6th or 7th rd pick today and take his contarct as is
