Browns coach Romeo Crennel intimated Sunday that he could be interested in a veteran backup quarterback.

"I’ve got a guy in mind who knows the system," he said. "He might be a little older than I am, but he can still line up." The player is thought to be former Browns QB Vinny Testaverde. Crennel hinted that a move could be made late in training camp.

Oh no, MikeD17's plans may take yet another hit.

I mean he'd have another excuse why his source was crap.

For every generation, there are quarterbacks who test the limits of time itself...

George Blanda...

Steve DeBerg...

Now, it's Testaverde turn. Well, he couldn't have bought himself better protection to line up in front of him than LeCharles Bentley at center.

No, but I know I don't give a squat.

if you know how squatting involves a QB, then you would know why BP brought the #s up

squatting involves working the lower body (thighs) and back, and part of a QB's duties is to plant and throw, you can get alot of distance on your throws if you have good squatting numbers, so Parcells brought them up to tell us that Vinny's arm was still quite strong despite the wear and tear on them, of course his arm fell off during the 2nd half, but still...

well then, that's why he brings it up for ALL qb's i suppose, huh?

Curses. They are killing our "back-up" plan.

Let's face it, Parcells is riding Bledsoe. He is not going to bring in any type of back-up QB who would at any time give the fans reason to turn on Bledsoe if he has a bad game or two. No one will call for Romo or Henson to start. But, if we were to sign a guy like Kerry Collins, that's basically asking for the dreaded QB cotroversy, which at this point in his career, Parcells will not create that situation. Therefore, we will risk it all on Bledsoe and Bledsoes health and hope Romo or Henson can do the job if called upon, and only cross that bridge if he has to.

wow - i've said this and i'm into conspiracies.

however, i do agree. what i found so very funny is when he got here he flat out said he doesn't have time to develop a qb, so instead we get vinnie - and then he's gone after 1 year of quincy and now we have bledsoe - so after 3 years he's gone through 3 qb's and this is the 1st year we've had the same qb in back to back years.

does anyone else think we could have "developed" a young guy in that 3 year frame instead???

no, just saying that Parcells doesn't say anything w/o any meaning

in this case my own impression was that he was tired of qb questions and their durability, so he kept bringing it up as if it were a valid defense against age. i don't think being able to squat a kia is gonna keep you from getting hurt if that's the way the hit falls into place.

but what *is* funny is that from the people i've heard this from (and the one who laughed about it the most does PR for *many* NFL qb's so i'm sure he gets to hear about all the "good" squatting does, just found it more funny than useful into) you're the only person to "defend" that stance/line.

parcells will in the end say whatever he thinks he needs to say to stop discussions he'd rather not be a part of and not really give a damn on "personal impressions" of what he said - just quit talking about it.

I'm not defending it, I just understood why he said it

and squat #s have nothing to do with withstanding hits, I don't know where you got that from

because when ever a reporter asked bp about vinnies age or durability, parcells would say something to the effect of "my god man, do you know how much the man can squat!!!"

red herring to me.
