Please help me understand why Brown's penalty wasn't holding (5yd + 1st down), but PI (1st down and spot foul)?

Once ball in the air it becomes PI. Holding is the call if QB hasn't release the ball. It was pretty close.

It was an obvious grab by the DB, however, the ball looked mainly uncatchable.

Having said that, this one could have gone either way. There were worse calls.

Troy Aikman was exposed on that one, for being anti-Cowboys to show his impartiality. He said it was a "good call" on Anthony Brown. However, the refs admitted that it wasn't a call on Brown at all, but rather on Barry Church, away from the play that Brown was involved in. What's more, Church's play happened 20 yards earlier, and was never replayed. So, Aikman, stop making an effort to prop up the calls against Dallas. You're making stuff up.

The refs DIDN'T affect the outcome.
They were fair to both teams.

Not calling holding on an outright wrestling move on Irving in the last play affected the outcome. I don't know if it was intentional bias, but a poor call did affect the outcome.

A much, much less egregious hold affected the night game's outcome as well.

To say refs calls don't affect the outcome of NFL games may be upstanding manly talk, but it simply isn't true.

Someone more knowledgeable than me should comment but if the ball is uncatchable then they would just pick up the flag.

Yes, they do that a lot after conferring. I actually thought that was going to be the call after they talked for a bit.
