Here's the odd thing -- the articles on Givens and Zastudil aren't linked anywhere on the Browns' Web site, as far as I can tell. You have to change the number in the URL to get to the stories on Givens and Zastudil. (The Browns' Web site stupidly numbers each article in order.) Perhaps those articles were written in anticipation of both players signing Saturday, so they could be posted as soon as they reach an agreement, and weren't meant to be posted yet.

DC.Com made the same blunder with a Chris Palmer to Saints article. Media outlets ran with it - and it was fictitious.

Not that Browns story is a hoax - its odd.

The first weird free-agency report of the night came from Cleveland, when the team's Web site reportedly signed Patriots wide receiver David Givens and Ravens punter Dave Zastudil. The only problem was it wasn't true. Givens' agent, Brad Blank, has his client on a 7 a.m. flight to Miami to visit the Dolphins, and he almost didn't send Givens to Cleveland because of the erroneous report. Blank theorized that someone hacked into the Browns' computer, but he emphasized that no deal is done. Givens is scheduled to visit the Browns on Sunday if he doesn't sign with the Dolphins on Saturday.

Funny thing is now that report is gone. Go to the link and you wont see it anymore. Maybe someone hacked Claytons computer to say someone hacked the browns.

Givens signing w/Browns according to Kffl was a hoax

Dolphins | Team will visit with Givens
Fri, 10 Mar 2006 22:20:03 -0800

Mike Reiss, of the Boston Globe, reports the Miami Dolphins have arranged a visit with free agent WR David Givens (Patriots) for Saturday, March 11. Apparently, earlier reports of Givens signing with the Cleveland Browns were premature.

If u were going to go to that length for a joke... why would you do it with Givens?
No one cares about Givens.
Why not do T.O. or something?

The only strange part is that it got up on the web page. Reporters routinely write up stories for things that might happen in the future -- they probably have a story ready for every FA that the Browns might have an interest in. It is how the reporters kill time on slow days.
