Not sure if this was posted, but I love me some Marinelli! Check out this quote from a BTB article on vets and, specifically, Bruce Carter:

And Rod Marinelli is making no bones about the fact he needs to get his act together.
"I don’t do confidence stuff," said Marinelli, who was promoted to defensive coordinator this offseason. "Get down and play. Get down and play. Here’s your assignment key. We want you to play fast and we want you to take the ball away."

"Go play," Marinelli said. "It’s a man’s game, man. Play it the right way. That’s what I want. We’re going to coach it. We’ll coach you hard. Be where you’re supposed to be. This is what we expect. And then go."

That's some tough love and hard coaching. My bet? Carter mans up and finds his swagger...

There are 2 things that can happen:

1. He finds his "swagger" and plays like people see him as being capable of playing
2. He plays like he did last year and his butt finds the bench

I see carter finding the bench. carter is more suited for the 3-4 defense in the middle. just my opinion I hope I am wrong if not we draft a linebacker next year that fits this defense better.

3. They trade him to New Orleans to reunite with RR. The Saints have to have Rod Marinelli's boot (shoe, but boot sounds better) extracted from Carter's arse.

I'm the biggest Carter fan, but ROD is right! I've been asking for years, where are our men on D? If Carter's not embracing the physical side of the game, move on. All that other stuff is just getting by because you look the part. Bruce has been called out and now he must respond or project "great measurables" aka Bruce Carter must be scrapped. Play like a man or be another "built like Tarzan play like jane" jokes of a player. Ball is in Bruce's hands now, what will he do with it?

More lameness. As I've said with Spencer, I hope he gets it together.

On Talking Cowboys they said Marinelli is moving Justin Durant over to WILL to compete with Carter for the starting spot this yr.

That attitude is flowing down to the position coaches too:

“There is a standard we need to play with, and everybody needs to be held up to that standard, and it’s our job as coaches to hold them to that standard,” Eberflus said. “I’m talking about effort, hustle, I’m talking about the physicalness we play with – those are the standards we play with, and everybody has to come up to the standard of that. If you don’t do that, then you won’t play.”

Marinelli speak is the best on this team. Very refreshing and music to the ears compared to stacking good days on good days . . . . . . . . . . and the process. Or, "oh, we think he's a very good football player and will fit in well here" talk.

also, it seems the players love RM from things that you hear so if the tough love for Carter results in lack of effort to get better, I would hope that others on the team will get on Carter as well...put up or shut up time....gotta love that in RM...you hear that a lot about Eberflus as well (no nonsense)...

Yes, Marineilli said it himself in an interview. He said Durant/Carter at WLB and Holloman/Wilber at SLB. That was before/during the draft so he didn't address the new guys.

I like the attitude, maybe the defense can play with some attitude and swagger. No more soft touches. Hit the QB, hit him hard, hit him often....and don't help him up.
I still like the play when Heath wouldn't help up Cousins, when Cousins put his hand out, Heath just looked at him, turned and walked away.

Looks like the days of coddling our players in the manner so reminiscent of the Wade Phillips regime are over, once and for all. Marinelli evidently isn't one to fool around with his players like we witnessed during the days of Camp Cupcake. It's about time.

I think Marinelli knows how to get the most out of his players and I think Carter will step up to the challenge

I'm tired of players in key positions being major let downs (Carter, Mo, Carr, Lee [health reasons], DL, etc.) .

I long for the day when our defense is filled with healthy players full of piss and vinegar.

Can we please get Doomsday back?

you got to work for that and the organization has not been making that priority number one and we have to deal with that. The ealgue really isnt really wanting it as a reality either with more and more penalties for touching or breathing on the qb.

Every guy you just listed is merely a product of what we get out of the front 4. Considering we had a no-name, off-the-street majority on the D-line last season because of the rash of injuries, then it is what it is. Our depth on the D-line even suffered due to injuries.

If we can't clog lanes and pressure the QB up front, and contain the edges, then every single mentioned player is going to lack everything we need them to be. It starts in the trenches.

I really believe the health of Tyrone Crawford and Ben Bass, along with the an emergence of DeMarcus Lawrence and whoever else will be key to getting they men you mentioned back in the good graces of the fan base and back to playing productive defense.

Will smith will probably be a PS guy and Mitchens is Lee's backup. That was said also.
