We need 40-70 more hurries, hits, and/or sacks to be top five or so. I'd like 40ish sacks and the rest to add up to at least 310 or more.

Bruce Carter dogging it after giving up TDs is inexcusable. A defensive scheme that asks a LB to carry a receiver up field 30 yards with no help in sight should be called into question as well.

I am watching the Saints game right now. The Saints attacked Jeff Heath, Micah Pellerin, Everett Brown, Jarius Wynn, BW Webb, Cam Lawrence, Ernie Sims and a gimpy Demarcus Ware over and over again. Brees targeted those guys and destroyed them.

Carter was playing hard even after Durant went down and had Lawrence and Sims playing next to him. There was a bogus horsecollar where his hand never reached inside the shell on a nice tackle he made. I keep waiting for something to rear its head as I watch. I would hate to think people are making up stories in order to bash team members.

The offense had to be perfect and they weren't. Romo was skittish and we didn't really have much of a gameplan for dealing with double coverage on Bryant. We were able to run the ball in the first half before having to abandon the run down several scores. The special teams made several plays but Bruce Carter was not the problem.

It really seems that people have taken 3 plays and tried to paint a picture for the entire season. I can understand why players hate the media.

People should not cite this game nor the Eagles and Commanders games as examples of poor effort on Carter's part. He was still taking and shedding FB and OG here at the bitter end. Need a new scapegoat.

His pass coverage is a bit problematic but not that bad. It's his all around game. It's hard to judge LB and secondary play when the unit is too damaged to play cohesively. We'll see how he performs this year.

Well said and you're one of the few here at CZ that understands football. Good post.

Thank ya brother. I trust Marinelli will get the guys returning from injury ready to play with some intensity. Heck, our D just surprise a few. At least one can hope.

He doesn't have any ball skills to win one on one matchups is his biggest problem but Brees and Rivers throw their guys open with single coverage.

I just think the 'issues' with him are based on falsehoods.

Well he only had 3 or 4 negative games per PFF in coverage last year; FWIW. Without seeing the All22 and knowing his assignments on a play or his reads it's nearly impossible to tell what he is or isn't doing. Of course when someone runs by him and he waves bye then fans will get rowdy.

If the coaches start saying positive things and it appears he's playing well, then we can relax. He better bring his A game because I don't see Lee or Durant going anywhere this year although I'll hedge a bit on the latter. And of course Lee has to actually play the game for that to count.

Watching the Saints game, Durant can play if healthy. It wasn't until he went down and Cam Laurence who is excellent on ST was forced to come in that the wheels came off against the Saints.

I'm amazed at how negative people are about Bruce Carter. Two years ago that man had more explosive hits than anybody on defense. My gut feeling is that Carter loved playing for Ryan and he had a hard time adjusting to a new coach. I hope Carter turns it around, because two years ago I thought he was a man to be feared on our defense.

Carter is another player that the coaches can't seem seem to get the most out if his talent. It seems to be a problem with motivation among other things. There is no doubt that he is capable of being a very good player. He proved that during the time that he filled in for an injured Lee.
